The evidence of his previous carelessness had been blown away and dealt with. Sadira believed the disease Lung-Rot had taken hold of Sanctus and the house of the lonely women he subjected to his machinations was utterly destroyed. Every trace wiped save for a smoldering hole in the ground.

On to the next phase....

With the results tabulated, calculations made and preparations for the next underway, it was time to take stock of where he was at. Sitting in the former office of both Talon and Zarlox, Bailos poured over a few reports from his technicians.

Patients respond well to neuro-stim...
Little to no infection of exposed tissue...Immunity estimated at 80%...
Blood analysis reveals little change...
Body rejects without genetic therapy...
Females respond 12-15% more favorably...

And the list went on...mere ramblings, nothing specific, to anyone but the most knowledgable eyes. A secret project, masked with another secret. It was a dangerous game...but one worth playing.

At the same time, outside Blackguard
========================

The soldiers, wearing a mix of clothing but all in identical sashes marking them as Bailos' Vanguard, proceeded down the street to the address 018. A somewhat dilapitated plaster house right on the road. Small, practical, probably housed two people, tops. The target was carefully chosen for this reason especially. With a quiet patty of an axe, one of the Vanguard split the door down the middle and stuck his arm in through the door, unlocking it. With a creak, the wooden barrier swung ajar. Quietly the brutes flushed in, but the last one lingered. Nailing a massive parchment to the door, he slammed it shut and took to boarding up the establishment from the inside.

From the side of the house, in a small window on the second floor, one could see the faint blue glow of a moongate cast itself on the residents of the home as they were unceremoniously thrust through, bound at their wrists. As their screams faded and some of the men followed behind into the moongate, the window was boarded up cloaking the house in mystery once more.

In a few moments all the sounds from the house had ended and down on the door all that remained of the incident was one large word, on one large piece of parchment paper...

Sadira found the house with the sign upon her investigations. Her eyes widen as she looked upon it.

"What is going on here?"

She whispered under her breath. She looked around to see if anyone was about. She went back to the lumberjack she had spoken with a few days ago. As the sun started to set, she returned with someone to break down door and boards. She slipped in through the opening that was made for her.

"Bailos what are you up to? You told me you would tell me."

She says to herself. She then lights the lantern before the day loses its last bit of light. She started to look around for evidence and clues. She knew Bailos would tell her Lung Rot and she knew there was more to it. Just like Zarlox mentioned, oddly enough no lung rot has infested Sanctus before Bailos' take over. The pit of her stomache was telling her there was something more sinister, vile and cruel happening.

As Sadira slipped into the house and her lumberjack friend walked back to what he was doing, Bailos' mysterious servant emerged from the shadowplane and in a calculated move, stepped in the direction of the house.

Grabbing a lantern which hung above a bed of flowers, the being followed behind Sadira, into the house.

Sadira, in her search for clues, began thumbing through each room. Finally she made her way up the stairs, just as the shadowy figure stepped through the doorway.

With little more than a calculation of where to throw it, the wraith tossed the lantern onto a couch in the corner of the first room. It's oil contents splatered over the couch and walls, and the flame ignited setting the home ablaze.

With no expression, he left as he entered and just as quickly vanished back into nothingness.

She will pay for her curiosity...

Sadira continued to look around. She stopped for a second, believing she heard something. Shaking it off as if were just her nerves acting up, she continued on searching through items. As the downstairs started to burn more, Sadira noted the smell. It was too late, as she ran towards the stairs. The flames were at her feet licking at her skirting like a hungry hell hound, before dvouring its prey. She quickly ran to one of the rooms and shut the door. She rolled on the floor to put out the small flame that was on her skirt tails. But not before it has left its marking upon her leg. She quickly ran to the window...struggling to get it open. Once the creak was heard from the old window giving way to her panic...she stuck her head out and yelled. But the place was off set from the rest of the houses. She could see the smoke swelling up from under the door as the flames threaten to take the only thing that was between her and them. Finally she just closed her eyes and jumped. She prayed that the virtues would help guide her in her fall. All she heard was the soft thud and a crack..before a sharp pain that was so intense shot up her leg then her side before all became dark. Sadira laid there in a small pooling of her own blood, from her head hitting a rock..and her right leg was bent in an unnatural way.

Removing a glove from one hand, Bailos bent down to check for a heartbeat.

Damnit...Still warm

*Sadira has survived her fall, although worse for wear.* he though to himself. With a sigh of disappointment, yet relief at the same time, Bailos scooped his arm underneath Sadira and began to drag her along by the arms with no regard for her leg's....condition.

Here at this most opportune and convenient time, he felt himself unable or unwilling to finish her off. It would have been far too easy. Smother her with his cloak...she was unconcious afterall...or pick up a rock and smite her head with it; this would look the most believable. But yet he felt compelled to see to her safty, since she had not died.

Arriving a few dozen yards away at Sadira's very own Candlelight Inn, he managed to carry her up to a room. The blood had stopped dripping a long time ago and she was begining to get dirty. Laying her over the covers of her bed, he took the luxury of leaving a small note for her.

==================
Sadira,

You are to truly lucky I found you. When you find yourself able to support movement, come and see me.

-Bailos

==================

Going into the washroom and filling a basin with tepid water, he sets it near her bedside and wetted a rag. Wiping the drying blood from her brow he rung the rag out and stood back up. Leaning down to her ear, he got very close...and left her broken body with these words; Your nine lives are almost up

With little more than the rustle of his robes, his vanished into the shadow plane, and left her survival up to nature.

Though Sadira was unconscious, his words echoed in her head. She moaned softly from the pain that throbbed through her whole body. Even Bailos light touches to wipe the blood seem to enhance the pain. When he leaned over and whispered, her hand moved ever so slightly and would touch him lightly...then she went limp again. She wanted to cry out not to leave her, she felt alone. She could feel his presence leave and she was unsure where she was...or if anyone would find her again. Tear rolled down her cheek as she invisioned what life would have been like. She thought for sure she was going to die, alone..and in the darkness. No matter what she tried, she just could not get herself to move or to awaken..yet she could hear what was going on around her....and she could feel the pain. The pain was almost as unbearable as the thought of dying alone. She then let herself go deeper into her mind...where the memories played out of the times she had enjoyed...there she would not be alone in the deeper receeds of her mind. There she drifted from one memory to another slowly become even less aware of her outer surroundings.
