Tai charged up to Dan, whirling his weapons with lightning-fast speed! It was all he could just to just fend them off with his shield, but they just kept coming! Since when had his opponent become so strong, he couldn't help but wander, but that single moment of a thought was all that his dueler needed. With but a few quick strokes, Dan's wounds drove deep and cut him down to his knees.
"Good fight, Sensei"
"Bah!" Dan thought to himself. Having been defeated so quickly, he hardly believed that he deserved such a title. Sure, it was out of respect for what he had taught and shown Tai in their days in the Army, but what was the point of holding such regard when the man himself was an actual Shogun?! It all just seemed to nag at him, but sure enough a smile crept to his face as his friend put away his weapons and began to bandage his cuts.
"I still don't know why still call me that. Here you are, having surpassed my skills with such ease, and you still think of me as your Sensei."
Tai only smiled back, and grabbed Dan's wrist to haul him back to his feet. Needing to maintain his balance from the blood loss, Dan quickly moved his hand to his sheath to draw out Silversting...only to find no weapon at all...
Silversting, his beloved kryss, whom he had left with his half-sister upon his departure to find her soul. Another faded and painful memory, but still so alive in his mind. He had never found who had done it, and ever since he had returned he had heard no word at all of the accursed "Council" she belonged to. "The Moonglow Town Council", how he had learned to despise the name. His better side knew not to give them the blame, but that was all that he had left of her, and that was his only clue to her vanishing...
Realizing his pause in motion, he quickly picked up his warfork for balance instead, as to not to draw out suspicion. Tai looked at him with slight question, but then just shrugged it away. After all, with the things that his dear sensei had been through, who was he to question his troubles? Having to been put through the relief of returning home, and then torn away from it. Poet's death too must of taken its toll on him as well, having losing the only man who had taken him in from the outside and giving him a place to stay and work and laugh through the nights, and then just losing him without even getting a chance to say goodbye...
They both understood each other, and ever since Tai's men had found him in Zento, tired, cold, and torn, it was about time that he helped him with his second chance.
After Dan had been taken in by Tai's group, he had been given the chance to restart where he had left off, to finally get past it all and start a new chapter in his life. Living his past would only bring pain, and so, holding true to the motto of that very Praetorians that had raised him to learn "Never Look Back", he would begin anew. |
