All the days of feverous preparations had paid off. She was ready to open the doors for the first time. Even though there was a ball going on somewhere across Malas from the Hunter's Lodge she had a steady flow of people coming to see her new establishment. She welcomed them and fed them and even had two new boarders.
She had met many people, some even from her home town of Sanctus. Many knew of their plite and others that didn't and heard and spoke of contacting old friends there to offer their support and aid. She was very pleased by this and told some whom to contact and how to reach others.
One man that was greatly concerned for the people of Sanctus was also a great warrior and a General. They talked for most of the evening that first night. He came back each night following. She found herself looking forward to him arriving and not wanting him to leave. What were these strange feelings she was having for this man. She had never experienced anything like this before. Then when he was ready to leave after several nights of seeing her, he kissed her. Her heart lept. She had only been kissed once before by a neighbor boy that lived near her home when she was sixteen and it didn't make her heart ache for more.
When he returned the next night he brough her a gift. She opened it and saw the most beautiful clothing she had ever seen in the box. She modeled them for him. She hugged him and then he kissed her again, this time deeper and her knees felt like jelly.
As she returned to her room that night, singing and humming could be heard down the hallways for the first time since she'd had to leave home and had to move from Sanctus. A soft amber glow filled the room. She though to herself how happy he made her feel. She noted that in her diary, closing it. She slipped off her new apron, bonnet and dress and slid the nightshift over her head. A broad smile came over her face as she blew out the candle and layed her head down on the cool pillow. |
