Rachel recalled to Legion Isle and looked around. There were no lights on in any of the nearby houses, including Vaen's. She let out a small sigh, and walked up the steps to her home. It was late, she couldn't expect them to be awake so late, and she hadn't mentioned she was coming home quickly. She hadn't wanted to draw any attention.

Valatin and her had left a few months ago now, and it had been so sudden that they hadn't really had time to explain. They had felt that they needed a break from everything, and so had taken off randomly, like they used to before everything had changed. While gone though, they had lost track of the time and days. Finally realizing it had been months, Rachel had said that she felt they should go home and at least lock up their home and possibly leaving a note for Vaen and the rest of the Legion. Valatin had agreed and went off to town to grab some necessities before they set back out.

Rachel looked around the dark house trying to find the lamp they had always kept near the door. When she finally found it and turned it on, she quickly grabbed some extra clothes, armor and a few other things, along with a peice of parchment and an ink pen. She sat down at her desk and began to write out a letter.

Dearest Vaen,

Valatin and myself apologize for disappearing so suddenly, I can only imagine the worry you have had. I am sorry. Valatin and I decided that we needed time away, and after having our time away, have decided that we need to stay away. Being with you and the Legion has made us realize just how valuable our lives really are, and how short they are as well. Valatin is not a young man anymore, and I fear his days may be numbered, even more so with the constant battles we run into. Please forgive us for leaving. You'll always be our family, as will the rest of the Legion. Maybe someday soon we will return. Until then, I hope you and the Legion continue to grow strong and bring Justice to the lands. We'll miss you very much. I'll try to write to you so that we keep in touch. Be safe, and good luck in whatever the future brings you. Please give my love and good wishes to the rest of the Legion. I would write them all letters, but it's too hard.

Your friend, and companion,
Rachel Corbinis

Rachel folded the letter carefully and tied a green ribbon around it. She took one last glance around her house before dimming the lamp, and walking towards Vaen's house. She looked up at it and then pinned the letter to the door. She could feel the tears streaming down her face, and almost felt like she should stay. She quickly shook her head and wiped the tears away with her hand as she pulled out her spellbook, found a rune in her book, and recalled off Legion Island for possibly the last time.

Vaen woke after his night in Destard, his body aching all over. He knew he couldn't stay here much longer. He had to go to Legion island for just a little while. Just a little rest at home, he thought would do good.

As he recalled onto Legion Island, he saw a letter posted on the door of the stronghold. He read it over a few times. It was Rachel's handwriting, so she was all right. He sighed in relief.

After reading over the letter a few more times, Vaen came to the realization once again that he may never see his best friends again. Atleast, however, he knew they were safe. Still, though, he wished he could just see Rachel one more time. To hug her. Tell her how he looked up to her as a big sister. And to Valatin, how he looked to him as an older brother, who would always push him to be better. All of these words, he wanted to say. But he would never get the chance.

Vaen walked into the stronghold and up into his room, and moved quickly over to his writing desk. He started to write out a few replies in which to send back to the two of them, but nothing sounded right. He wanted to convince them to come back, so that they could all three be together. The memories they had together. From Crystal Fens all the way up to Valatin's slip of the tongue on the roof of Poets. They were all fond memories that Vaen did not want to let go of, but he knew he had to.

"Rachel," Vaen thought, "I miss you more than you'll ever know. You always will be my older sister. I'll miss everything there is to know about you, even your flaws. Your flaws are what made you the perfect sister. You know I love you but why, why must you go..." Vaen sighed as a tear ran down his cheek. He coughed lightly and whiped the tear from his eye.

"Valatin," Vaen thought again, "Who is going to tell me I'm being stupid? Who is going to push me as you did? You were always there to point me in the right direction. I feel I have no where to go. No home without you. Without Rachel. I feel lost..."

Vaen wanted to put all these words out on paper, but he couldn't find the ways in which to do so. Instead, he wrote out a quick response to Rachel and Valatin.

Friends,

It is good to know you are safe. I understand that you need your time away, and by all means take it. We will hold the fort. Take care, both of you. I love you both dearly. Please do keep in touch.

All my heart,
Vaen "Swiftbuns"

Vaen rolled up the letter and held it tightly in his hand. He folded his arms across his desk and lowered his head into them, and began to cry. He truly felt lost without his best friends. But somehow, he knew everything would end up all right.

Sitting back up in his chair, he whiped his eyes and called for his pigeon. The pigeon grabbed the letter from Vaen's hand and flew out in search of wherever it was Valatin and Rachel were.
