Isk fantasized of a meadow in full flower, with trees and shrubs standing guard, adjacent trees weaving a lattice roof of leaves, a mixing of green branches provided a shaded vault for the flowers. He imagined shadows cast below the leaves, and sunshine which filtered in soft splashes onto the meadow through fissures left by the artificer in the leaves above. A colonnade enclosed the meadow on every side so that within its cloistered coverings the meadow rested secure. At the foot of luxuriant bushes grew beds of flowers in neat rows, narcissus and black roses. And in the middle of this picture garden was a pond of clear blue water, at first bubbling up from deep in the earth and then spreading out over the surface of the flowers and plants like an embracing hand. If this were a real place one could follow this stream to the near by sea where Molly floated face down with seagulls pecking happily here and there. A non-human separated from paradise. Dead on the border. If only it were real.

Molly had to be dealt with. The trial which she thrust upon him, using Kotare as an instrument of justice, had restricted the freedom of the new defacto leader of the Hand of Humanis. With great annoyance Isk spoke to himself backing up his own beliefs “They have forced me to lie.”
With the fling of a hand Isk dispelled the fantasy from his mind and veered his mount to take the longer path towards the docks where his ship the Legacy waited for him. The Magnate needed the extra time to go over the web of lies he had created. So as he passed the classical sandstone buildings of his beloved city Isk began at the start.

The lies were already told to the Regency as well as the council of Zento and anyone that would listen. With flourishing gestures Isk used his rhetoric skill to fabricate how he had been a victim of an elven plot. How Molly stuck her finger down her throat to vomit on his lap during Kotare’s ceremony earlier in the week. Isk touched his chest with his left hand to feel his beating heart as he spoke to nothing and everything on his way to the docks.
“Dearest council, when I returned newly dressed and confronted her alone on the balcony I was quite upset. With a bombardment of words I berated her for her uncouth actions, her sickly display of barbarism. But the witch laughed and mocked your dearest friend.” Isk shook his head adding in words he did not yet say to make himself sound better to his own self. “She said she would break the strong ties Humanis has to the virtues and the Regency. And when I backed away restraining the urge to hit her for her words she got her guild companion, who had entered only moments earlier, to hit her upon the head. She bled and shouted out that she was assaulted even though being opportunistic she planed to frame me” Taking his cue the porcelain masked magnate modulated his voice after forcing himself to sigh adding to his lies some fabricated sense of hopelessness.
“Kotare and the other guests poured into the room as I stood near Molly now to see for myself the bloody product of her cunning. With tears she pointed me out and won the sympathy of the guests by acting the part of a battered woman so that all I could do is stand stupefied by the sudden show Molly performed. It was then that I was arrested by Kotare, in front of my people Aya and Stephen as well as my dearest wife who’s heart must have sunken at the sight of her husband in chains.”

Having reached the dock Isk entered his ship and set course for Yew. He had a magistrate to see and something to give him, the journey would give Isk time to perfect his deception.
