The pigeon fluttered away on its path to deliver its message to Lady Labelle. Leshok smiled and looked up upon the night’s sky and the stars that abided there, lifting the looking glass she had given him he gazed more deeply upon the heavens than any time past. It wasn’t long before the beautiful woman arrived upon where he was, and sat upon the tree log next to him with a smile. She asked him of the how the sky was through the glass she had given him and seemed anxious of his approval of the item. Yet she couldn’t have known the joy this simple item had given Leshok, how many nights had he gazed at the stars and not noticed the things he had seen just this night and the last through the glass. She smiled happily listening to him go on about the things he had seen, stopping only to hand her the glass to point out such sights, what appeared to be a single bright star, ended up being two stars seemingly close together. How clear the moon looked through the glass, seeing what looked like they could be mountains or even oceans on its surface. Most amazing where the number of new stars he had seen, small and dim not able to be seem through just the naked eye.
For a good while the two sat side by side, slightly leaned into each other handing the glass back and forth gazing at the heavens. He pointed to her a very small, subtle star that was so close in proximity to the moon, without the glass, the moons glow covered it up. Leshok explained how this had become his favorite star, for it was subtle and beautiful, as if it wished not for everyone to see it, only those who knew where and how to find it. Labelle smiled as she gazed upon the star through the glass as Leshok spoke.
“Indeed the star is my favorite, it reminds me of someone” Leshok spoke gently nudging her.
Labelle smiled and spoke softly “There are many bodies in the heavens, sure Milord could choose any to favor.”
Leshok tilted his head as he spoke “One doesn’t often choose what they favor, they simply are endeared to it, does Milady understand that?”
Labelle smiled and spoke in a gentle and serious tone “More than Milord.” The two continued gazing the stars a while as Leshok explained his story of the drinking contest between Charger and Veroth, which ended with Leshok having cider dumped on his head. They talked and laughed, then Leshok gently placed his hand on hers with a smile, she smiled slightly in return and briefly placed her other hand atop of his speaking “I fear I have work to do…” as she began to release their hands and get up.
As usual, Leshok expressed his apologies for over stepping any boundaries, and making their time together uncomfortable. Labelle stopped, still seated and look at him with pleading eyes “Milord must not apologize, for it is not how he sees it.” She spoke quietly. It was then Leshok saw what he couldn’t believe he had never seen before in her eyes whenever they parted like this. It was not his actions, but something, some hurt in her past that caused these reactions.
Leshok looked to her with the most compassionate gaze he could muster and spoke softly “This may seem an odd question, but has Milady been hurt by a man in the past.”
When he spoke Labelle silently looked down at the ground not speaking for a moment then looked at him with sad eyes. Gently she spoke, seemed almost to choke upon her words “I do not wish to talk about it.”
Leshok looked to her, finally coming to an understanding of many of times she had acted simply spoke in a gently voice “No, Milady needs not to answer that question, often do words get in the way, some times one must just forget about all else and just let go.” After he spoke he reached over and gently pulled her close holding her as she rested against him sighing gently. For several moments the two sat there as he felt her more or less melt against him and the spot of his shirt where her head rested steadily dampen. He tilted his head down and whispered quietly into her ear as she leaned closer to hear “Labelle Decantor you are special to me, don’t forget that”. He felt her sigh and lean into him and he hugged her closer before whispering again “I pledge on all I believe in, and all I stand for that I will never hurt you…”
The two sat there in each other’s arms speaking very few words, but each appreciating the moment for their own reasons. They talked quietly to each other about strengths and weakness, a smile often finding its way to Leshok’s face when she would shift slightly in his arms, not to back away but to seemingly be closer, or when he would feel her gently sigh. It was a moment he wished would never end, but knew it would, but not in a bad way, a large barrier Labelle had put around herself had been taken down, an increased level of comfort and understanding between the two arose. When she spoke words in his arms, when they spoke of the strength in showing weakness, and the lack of strength in denying weakness, Leshok could feel her speaking her head resting against him as he kissed the top of her forehead and gently brushed fallen hairs from her face. When they reached another point where words just weren’t needed, and she seemed to shift more into his arms tight against him and the shirt she had made damp, he hummed a quiet tune, and felt her tapping her hand to the beat of it against him.
She smiled up at him and spoke softly “I must rest now for this eve, I have enjoyed this night, as much as any other, and hope Milord will be safe and in good spirits till we meet tomorrow.” She spoke standing up shifting her feet and slightly biting her lip, was she suddenly nervous?
Leshok nodded admiring her “Aye, and Milady be well until the next day herself” he spoke finding himself biting his own lip as they hugged and she started to walk off. Leshok took a deep breath and spoke “Wait Milady, I have forgotten one last thing”, she turned to him with an amused smile and tilted her head. Leshok walked up to her looked her gently in the eyes, then leaned down and kissed her, after the kiss they both smiled at each other, followed immediately by them both looking to the side or ground blushing furiously.
She spoke to him again softly “Has Milord…. forgotten anything else?”
Leshok looked at her and smiled gently raising her chin to view her face “Would Milady wish I did?” he spoke softly looking at her.
She spoke softly with a slight smile “Nay, Nay I would not” Leshok leaned forward again and gently kissed her as they smiled to another.
Leshok spoke with a smile “Rest well Milady Labelle, I shall see you tomorrow” as Labelle nodded and walked off slightly smiling, blushing and touching her lips. Leshok walked to his horse and returned to his home where he laid upon his bed and fell asleep, smiling the whole time. _________________ After all these years, I'm still putting up with Kuja and Vaen? whats wrong with me?
