|
Nazralte returned home to an empty house after his trip to the lands of Tokuno. He did not think much of this, for Ivae often left the house to go on shopping runs. His travels took him across the three islands, from the large city of Zento, to the smaller villages around the land. He stopped here and there and helped the local people with various things. Mostly helping to drive back unwanted creatures, but sometimes it was smaller things like using his battlefield medic skills to mend a broken leg, or other injuries.
Shortly after arriving home, he headed to Serpent's Hold, for there was a meeting to run. He was a bit early, so he went to the barracks and waiting for the Guard to arrive. Rryn was first, and she asked him about his trip. Nazralte told her of his travels and felt that he understood her and Tai's ways a bit better. Moments later Tai himself showed, and more small talk ensued. Getting the feeling that something wasn't quite right, Naz asked if he had missed anything. It was then that Tai told him there was a letter and that he should read it.
Finding out that Ivae had been kidnapped wasn't the easiest thing to take right before a public meeting, however Naz thought of how tough his wife is and felt a little better. He even felt sorry for her captors, for he knew that even if they escaped his wrath, they would have felt hers.
The meeting itself went rather uneventful. Lia was back and was named Chamberlain. The plague in Vesper was slowly going away, thanks to Rellik's study and cure. All in all, the meeting, as all have been since Naz was elected, was short and to the point.
Right before the meeting, Rosar of the Black Knights spoke with Nazralte. He said that he had heard of Ivae being missing, and said he thought a man by the name of Malorn may be involved. After the meeting a note was found, containing only a ransom of two hundred thousand, with instructions forthcoming. It was also then that a girl came in saying that her Fiance, Itenhe was missing along with Ivae.
Naz had tried to keep his wife's capture a secret from the general public, but it seemed that people knew, and now so did Mia. She seemed a little upset at first about not being told, but understood why Naz would want to keep this news from others. It was actually good fortune that she overheard, for she was willing to help in the search, and even joined them while they went to have a talk with Malorn. Toren, setting up the meeting for them, was not able to really help us. Nazralte spoke to the man Toren called Malorn, but he was unable to get much information out of him. When the short meeting was done, the man dashed off in haste.
Naz stopped by Rryn's place to see his daughter. He spent as much time as he could with her, but he was tired in so many ways, and headed home. He could only hope that Rryn, hiding outside the building where they had met Malorn, was able to follow the man and gather much needed information. _________________

The Regency meeting had went well. Somehow the Regent had managed to focus on the meeting not showing any emotion of the recent news that had been given to him. He stood firm even after Takeda had walked up and passed him the note and he heard from the young lady of her fiancee missing. Just the clenching and unclenching of his jaw showing any sign of his anger and concern. A private meeting was quickly held and the guard were given their posts. Arriving at the Garden and a brief conversation with the one named Toren, a meeting was called for in Toren's home with the one named Malorn. A brief glance, a silent message from Tai, with a nod of understanding, Rryn quietly slipped into the shadows and followed the Regent, Tai Kwan Leap and Mia to the meeting.
She remained outside hidden in case she was needed. She knew without being told what was required of her. A man showed up and spoke harshly and obviously without truth. He left rapidly...Rryn right behind him in his shadow. They traveled for many miles, crossing over to strange lands Rryn had heard and read of yet not seen. They were called the lost lands if memory served her right. The man stopped many times ,glancing around him, nervous it seemed, yet he did not detect her there in his shadow.
They eventually came upon a small village with thatched roofs and swampy marshes. He entered a building and she followed him. She sensed strong magics in this place. She would need to move slowly lest her form be revealed in the smoke coming from the many alchemists firepits. He glanced about the room making sure no one was paying him any mind and then slipped thru a panel in the wall quickly. By the time Rryn managed to get to the the hidden room..he had vanished. She stood there searching for a means to leave the room without being seen. Other then the wall panel she could find no other means of exit in the walls or the ceiling. Beneath her feet the man continued on his journey. The trap door in the floor so well placed it was undetectable in the dim light.....
Rryn slipped out of the room and went outside the building and stood behind a tree to reveal herself. She walked back up to the building and spoke pleasantries with one of the alchemists standing outside enjoying the evening. Stating she was new to this place, she asked where she was. He was happy to tell her she was in Papau. A few more moments of conversation and simple questions to gain information, Rryn excused herself saying she must find an Inn. He gave her directions and bade her good eve. Attaining a room for the evening and some food and drink, Rryn quickly penned off a message to Tai.
"Am well.
was not seen.
Lost his trail
A place called Papau.
Lost Lands."
She carefully folded the message in form of a songbird, blew carefully on it, telling it to find Tai, and sent it on its way out the window.
"Lost lands.." she thought aloud.
She sat to eat. They had a starting point now...but where to go from here? |

Tai had been up before dawn riding the borders of Britain helping the many who had takenup arms against the beasts invading the town. After many skirmishes he made his way to the Unicorn's Horn, a tavern in Eastern Britain.
There he found a table in the back corner, and at this early hour as the sun was rising he sat to break his fast.
While he was finishing his tea a blue songbird flew up onto the windowsill by the table where he sat. He held out his hand and it hopped onto his hand and he held it up to his ear. There he heard Lady Rryn's voice telling him she was safe after following the man into the lost lands, and of all places Papua.
Tai whispered back to the songbird:
My sakura I am joyful that you are safe. If memory serves me correctly, Lord Galnor has ties to the city of Papua. Safely seek him out. I will notify the Lord Regent of where the trail leads.
He then put his helm and mempo and gauntlets back on and equipped his staff as he rode back to the front lines. Now that the sun had arisen, it was time for the Lord Regent to begin his patrol of Britain. This would be the time to tell him the news from the Lady Rryn. _________________ "He's been fired from the Shrimp Boat?" -- Charlaine Harris "Living Dead In Dallas." |
