Mallory woke up and groaned a little. Her whole body was sore. It hurt nowhere nearly as bad as her heart, but it sure did ache. She had been helping the healers in Moonglow, in exchange for training, and she did not realize what hard work it was. As she rose from the bed her eyes caught glimpse of the purple rose petals, still in their special box… She refused to get rid of them, just as she had refused to believe Vaen was really gone… until she saw him herself. Mister Leshok had brought her to a bridge over the abyss. For a moment, and only a brief moment he had come back to them. She hadn’t even had a chance to tell him how much she loved him. She had begged and pleaded for him to come back, but to her disappointment he did not again appear.

Since that night she had not been herself. For days afterward she neither ate nor slept. She was only a shadow of who she was. There were many times she went and stared into the abyss wondering… waiting… hoping… and even at times crying out to the abyss to release Vaen. Rryn and Mister Tai spoke to her and asked her what would Vaen do had the roles been reversed. She knew what he would do. He would continue fighting for the Justice he had been denied. She decided that in his memory she would do all she could to honor the virtue he had died for… Justice.

Shaking her head and coming back to the present she sat in front of the fireplace in the Garden, getting ready to go back to Moonglow. She still wore the robe Vaen had given to her, that still had the scent of him on it. It reminded her of the times they had gone for walks, hand in hand… the tender embraces… the moment at the Ethereal Palace when they had both finally summoned the courage to tell the other how they felt. How could she lose all of that in one short moment? She loved Vaen with all of her heart, and now she would never be able to tell him again.

She wiped the tears from her eyes and went upstairs to pack some bandages in her pack. Someday she would be able to tell him, but until then she would continue her work here to the best of her ability, perhaps she would even join those that knew and loved Vaen best… the Legion.
