Marcus walked around Umbra. He had resigned from his position of the Ebon SKull, yet he still enjoyed the environment of Umbra. It felt right to him. Out of the corner of his eye, he spotted something. He turned and smiled.

Vaen looked up at Marcus and glared at him. "Another encounter with Marcus," he thought, "This one will be our last." He stepped closer to Marcus, and Marcus walked closer to Vaen. They were staring hatefully into eachother's eyes. Both of them wanting the other dead. Marcus spoke first.

"You know as well as I do Vaen, that if my blade kills you, I die as well."

Vaen nodded slightly. "So then allow me the pleasure of killing you. That way we can atleast save one decent life."

Marcus laughed and then looked at Vaen again. "You underestimate me."

Vaen seemed confused, but kept his glare. Marcus laughed again.

"All you have to do is fall into the abyss, my friend. There, I can not kill you. I will not have pushed the finishing blow on you. And you, my friend, will fall forever, until you starve, or get mauled by one of the wanderer's of the abyss."

Vaen felt his heart drop slightly. Marcus was right. He had finally figured out a way to kill him without endangering himself. There was no way around this now. Vaen quickly drew his blade and slashed at Marcus, but Marcus stepped back quick and drew his kryss. The two squared off and circled around eachother.

"Death to you, Marcus." Vaen said sternly.

"Oh, how just." Marcus said mockingly, smirking.

Vaen charged Marcus, but Marcus sidestepped and clotheslined Vaen with his shield, knocking him down to the ground. Marcus smirked and kicked Vaen in the side of the head hard. Vaen screamed out and rolled over on his side as Marcus began to repeatedly kick Vaen in the back. Vaen clenched his fists, withstanding the blows and trying to concentrate on the pain to ease it. Just as he was about to get up, Marcus slammed his shield back down on Vaen's body. Marcus then sheathed his kryss at his side and dropped his shield. He grabbed Vaen by the cloth of his robe around his chest and walked him over to the abyss.

"And now, oh great savior, it is time you met your end." Marcus said, grinning.

Vaen looked down at Marcus, blood pouring from his nose and mouth, his eyes half shut. "You won't win..." Vaen started coughing.

Marcus laughed. "But I already have, Vaen. And it is time you fall." Marcus smirked as he let go of Vaen, and Vaen began falling into the Abyss. Marcus watched until Vaen became nothing but a small green spec deep into the abyss.

Marcus raised his hands in the air. "I have won! I have defeated Vaen Swiftar!" He looked to a man to his left and smirked. "Spread the word, you seen it with your own eyes! Vaen Swiftar has fallen!"

The man stood there for a moment in shock, but then quickly ran off.

Marcus put his hand to his side to reach for his kryss, but it wasn't there. He looked around for it. "Hrmm, odd..."

Vaen looked up as the lands of Malas became smaller and smaller. He had finally been defeated, and there was no way of coming back. However, he had a small token. He looked at his hand, and in his hand was Marcus's kryss.

Vaen looked up at Malas and the thoughts of all of his friends came to mind. Rachel. Vaen's eyes watered up as he thought of her. He never liked her cooking, but Rachel was an amazing friend. Always there for him. And Valatin, like an older brother. And an amazing person to fight alongside with.

Vaen wiped his eyes, but he couldn't help the tears streaming down his face. He knew this was the end. But he still kept thinking about his friends, who he would never see again. Alexander, the crazy elf. Vaen knew Alexander didn't like humans very much, but he was honored that Alexander took a liking to him. It made him feel more accepted in this crazy world. Poet. "Poet..." Vaen said. "I'll never get to hear you sing one of your songs again. I'll admit, I never really liked them, but they are part of the atmosphere in the Tavern." Vaen closed his eyes and let out a cough. "Tavern... Mallory." Vaen's eyes began watering up immensely at this point, and tears were streaming down his face uncontrollably. "I hope you find someone that can be with you Mallory. I was never there for you in these last few weeks, and I am sorry. I love you, but you'll never hear me say it again. Damnit!!"

Vaen continued to fall in the abyss. He looked up, but he could no longer see the lands of Malas. He had fallen far. He looked at the kryss in his hand. He knew what he had to do.

***

Marcus walked around Umbra, still looking for his kryss. "Bah, I must have let it fall off the edge near the abyss. No worry, but I... Echh!!" Marcus grabbed his stomach. A sharp pain wretched through him. He fell to the ground as his skin began to boil. "WHAT IS HAPPENING TO ME?!" Marcus screamed. "What is going on?!" Marcus fell to the ground, completely lifeless. Out of Marcus's body flew two spirits. One of a white color, and another of a black color. The dark colored spirit let out a strange cackle before floating off into the air. The light colored spirit, before ascending into the heavens, said softly, "What have I done...? Vaen, I'm so sorry..."

***

Falling faster still was Vaen's body. However, it was lifeless. Marcus's kryss had been shoved through Vaen's chest, and through his heart. As Vaen's lifeless body kept falling, a small shimmering light in the distance could be seen. It got brighter as it approached Vaen's body.

Leshok finished paying a messenger and sent him off from Minoc when he saw people in the streets at an odd sort of panic.

"Have you heard? they say that Marcus killed Vaen Swiftar! a man saw him get thrown into the abyss!" One man said.

"What? Lord Swiftar is dead? what will become of the Legion? what will become of Minoc?" a woman said looking afraid.

Leshok ran over and grabbed the man by the collar in a state of panic, fear and anger. "What is this of Vaen dying?? tell me quickly!" Leshok yelled, fear in his eyes.

"M'lord, news travels that Vaen Swiftar has been tossed into the Abyss, and is no more, the word is said at every town accross the realm"

Leshok dropped the man and stepped back, in denial of the words, Vaen, his close friend, leader, and the strongest man he had known, gone? Leshok then darted to his horse and sped off to reach Legion Island and tell the others. The truth must be found.
