~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Commander,
Through this Lady's short venture upon east
Britain, came I cross an unusual. It appears
to be a force, of scattered shield, surrounding
a gathering of crystals. Had Milord not yet
looked into such occurrence as this...Perhaps
he would. It is odd to see something
constructed such as this in our city...
and I do not know the cause.
Yours Faithfully,
~Lady LaBelle~
Tai had been sitting in the zen garden on the second floor of the Myobi Inn deep in meditation when he heard the faintest of fluttering near the open window.
He looked up and recognized the seal on the message a pigeon was carrying. Gracefully standing from his kneeling position he carefully stepped around the edges of the zen garden so as not to disturb the placement of the stones or to disrupt any of the lines. At the window he gently removed the message and left a few seeds on the windowsill for the pigeon.
He unrolled the message and stood reading as the morning sun slipped in and bathed him in the light.
After finishing the note, he placed it in his pouch and dressed having been meditating only in tattsuke-hakama.
He walked calmly to the docks in Zento and paid for passage back to Britannia. During the brief voyage he stayed on the upper deck watching the flight of the seagulls above and the dance of the dolphins at his feet.
Upon arriving in Britainnia he walked throughout the city. The hawkers at the West Britain Bank always struck a note of discord in him.
As he wandered into East Britain, he noticed something in the street near the Magery shoppe. It appeared to be the base of a monument, but was surrounded by a crackling glowing field. There were shards of crystal scattered about the enclosed area.
Try as he might he could not seem to get beyond the barrier.
He had just taken off his kasa to try a forehead blow to the barrier when he heard Lady Rryn approach him.
She had been busy this morning. It was a nice morning so she had went to Britannia to see what wares were being offered.She stopped in at the provisioners to pick up her ordered journals and a new inkwell. Lately she found herself writing many poems and songs. She smiled as her thoughts turned to the true reason for her sudden inspiration. As if her thoughts had suddenly come to life, she looked up and saw Tai standing there looking determined to smite something.
He greeted her with a slight bow and smile. She looked at the apparition in front of her that he was studying. It appeared to be some sort of monument It was surrounded by a crackling glowing energized field on all four sides. There were shards of crystal scattered about the monument block within the enclosed area. He asked her what she thought it was. She could only shrug as she was not sure but she was certain it was not a good sign with that crystal all broken inside it.He was determined to get past that field.
He tried numerous methods in which to gain entry into the monument. A running leap and the field thru him 10 feet backwards upon his backside. Grinning as he got up and dusted himself off all he could say was " That most certainly did not work"
Climbing it resulted in pretty much the same circumstances.Headbutting it just gave him a new lump on his forehead. He even attempted to try digging under it. The shock of the field against the metal shovel threw him into the wall of the Magery Shop startling many of the mages to hurry thru the doorway to find out what had caused such a clatter.
She spoke with a mage there whom informed her that the momument had shown up suddenly a few weeks past. They were just as baffled by its appearance and just as confused as to its purpose.
She and Tai spoke with the mage a bit longer , gathered what information they could and decided that much research must be done to discover its meaning. For some reason they both knew that time was of the essence in learning its reason for being there.
They walked off towards the town to find the Library of Tomes...............
As they walked to the Library of Tomes, Tai pulled out some paper and posted a simple message to Lady Labelle.
"My Lady,
I have spent the better part of the morning examing this strange object. Much to my dishonor I was unable to breach the field around it. Lady Rryn and I are traveling to the Library of Tomes. If you would like to see some of the drawings that Rryn did of the object that is where you might find myself and her.
Tai"
With that, Tai sprinkled some salt on the ink to prevent it from smudging and began intricately folding the paper. This time he was working with both hands and finished just as he and the lady crossed into West Britain.
He held cupped in his hands a paper dragonfly. He chuckled as he brought it near his mouth and blew gently upon it. It's wings fluttered slowly at first then it circled the two of the three times before it flew off into the afternoon sun.
