The Druids of Britannia had been invited to the gala event, Ball of Light, at Lady Molly's house. While many of them were reclusive, some of them decided to try attending anyway. Among those that attempted the public affair were Maelwyn, Tavish, Kung-Li, Steel, and Kouiko.
The house was full tonight, many had turned out for the event. Thusly, most of the Druids felt uncomfortable, preferring the quiet solitude of the forests and the company of the woodland creatures. That is why, shortly after arriving, Kouiko and Kung-Li left to go elsewhere. The packing of so many into such an enclosed area did not sit well with them.
Tavish and Steel sat it out for the most part, enjoying various games and drinking songs. Maelwyn attempted to mingle a bit, to get a feel for the life around her. She had never seen so many people at one time in her life. Then again, she had never been to Britain, either. She had heard the rumors about Britain's markets, and how jammed they could be.
Some time into the night, a stranger approached Maelwyn. Wondering what he could want, and delighted to be of assistance, she listened to his next words, carefully.
"Pardon me, Miss, but you're standing in dog droppings."
Looking down, she realized he was right. Sighing, and noticing that most of the folks looked sympathetic, she headed for the door. She wondered why it was supposed to be embarrassing to step in such. It is a natural enough occurrence.. and far more embarrassing things happen all the time. She chanted Kal Ort Por, and was home in an instant. She walked up the stairs to her chest, and took a new pair of boots out. Thank goodness I have a live-in tailor, she thought.
As she bent down to slide one boot off, she doubled over in pain, clutching at her stomach. Eyes shut tightly, she could do nothing but experience the pain, and with it, came overwhelming sadness. This was the worst thing she had ever felt, a hundred emotions wafting over her as she was in agony, all of them sad. It lasted for no longer than 5 minutes, but those 5 minutes were enough to tell her that something very terrible had just happened. It was as if inside of her, a small light had been snuffed out, and no longer was it felt.
She quickly recalled back to the party, after putting her fresh boots on. Shortly after she rejoined her group, the three left, thanking Lady Molly for the invite.
She kept thinking the same thing over and over in her mind as they left. Soon, as she thought about it, she realized she had noticed quite a few dark things happening lately, in their world. She could see the beginnings of a very bad time for the world. Unfortunately, all the people tend to think about is who controls what city, and who should be the leader of it. Oftentimes, they didn't see trouble until it was too late. Again, her mind went back to the problem. She would prepare and set out the next eve to study what had happened.
"Somewhere in this wide world of ours, something dreadful has taken place."
