Orrin had just finished his official parchments when he heard the door her bedroom door open. It had been days since the last time he had heard movement in that area of the keep. He was only sure she was still among the living due to the fact that the dinner and drink he left each night near the door was always found empty the next day.

But this evening was very much unlike any of the others.. She moved.. she spoke.. Her color had returned. He was relieved. He tried to think of something comforting to say, but the words would not come. All he could muster was "Good eve M'lady." It sounded so pale.. so insignificant. So uncaring. He hated the words as they left his mouth. But she smiled. Something he'd not seen in days.

She made mention of going to a local tavern to visit with friends. She invited him along but he declined as he had more pressing issues. She left and the hours droned on. But his mind would not let him concentrate. It traveled. Over her face and figure. Over the way she formed her words. Over the way she showed such passion for her fallen mate. He was jealous. He felt entrapped by her beauty. He despised himself for the way he felt. He was betraying his beloved lord and friend. He could not feel this way!

He faught against the urge for what seemed like an eternity, but alas he could not win. He rummaged through his pouch until he found the rune for the place she had gone. He rubbed his hand over the rune and began to draw a picture in his head of the place he was going. He could almost smell her scent. hear her entoxicating words. Her smile.

He uttered the words and instantly he found himself at the tavern.. It was amiss with activity as usual. Many strange faces this evening. Always strange they were. He'd not seen a familiar face since he left the front. Some uttered incedencies umongst themselves. Some outright bellowed foul remarks at one another. But alas he found what he was searching for. He saw her face. She noticed him. She said not a word. He was nervous. She suspected his feelings. She despised him.. He could not bear it.

Then she spoke to him. "Come sit." He did so with great ease not to show to much enthusiasm. They exchanged casual talk for hours.. they passed so quickly. He tried to appear not interested.. detached.. unfeeling. He did not want his feelings to show. He could not allow it.

He asked to be excused. He could not bear it anymore. He was excused and he hastily made his way to the street, then the safety of his study.
