As the early dawn’s light snakes its way into the bedchamber, cascading over the sleeping pair that lie intertwined in a lovers embrace, the warmth of it stirs the slender form that lays atop. Slipping off and laying beside the other, the elf awakens to the feeling of warmth and cold fear.
Blinking her lavender eyes she quickly scans the chamber, looking at the rich décor trying to find any sign of danger lurking behind the tables, chests, tapestries, and other items in the room. Slowly her gaze comes to fix upon the man beside her. Looking closely at him as if seeing him for the first time, her long hair caresses over his skin as she continues to scan.
Moving back slightly she runs her fingertips over the new markings on his biceps. “What does this mean? Has he been with that beast Alarin…..no, he couldn’t......Alarin is dead.” Sarah thinks to herself and shakes her head. “Then what does this mean? More enlightenment or more estrangement from me? Why do I feel such a strong, puzzling energy coming from the man that I love?”
Getting up from the bed as not to awaken her husband she dons on a robe and loosely fastens it before walking out to their inner courtyard. Nodding to the ever present servant she takes the goblet of elven wine and sips it as she walks to the small fountain. Sitting on the marble wall of the delicate fountain she looks deep into the moving water for answers.
“Rufus is upset with my stance with the war in Yew. I do not agree with it and will not support it if not commanded to do so. He has not done so and I dread the day when he does.” Turning her small elven face towards the Nujel’m sun she takes it the warmth. “Mmm almost like Mother’s embrace..” she softly whispers as she leans back further, letting the sun warm her soul.
Her trouble mind drifts back to the last Regency meeting making her forehead crinkle with a frown. “Why do we allow outsiders such leeway and respect? Asking so many questions and assuming they know what the Regency should be, has been and not doing..” Sighing she lays back on the fountain’s thick lower wall as she tries to relax. “Yew is not Loyal. They do not wish to become Loyalists yet demand our aid. Many have died in support of their ways and wishes. Led by Lilyth, one of many that left my husband’s Regency yet she comes back to the very Assemblage she turned her back on for favors. The town of Yew is not even virtuous in the strictest of sense. For they allow anyone that owns land in Yew the right to hold a position upon the Council. They make no judgment upon their members in regards to the Virtues. The land owner may be virtuous or not. When I held a council seat I sat across from members of the Dark Awakening at many a meeting. Though they may not attend now, the possibility of like ones as the Dark Awakening to return upon the Council is easily foreseen due to the lack of any virtuous standards. I have lost touch with the Council, such ones may hold seats upon the Council now for the little I know of late." Sarah finishes her wine and sighs to herself from her troubled thoughts.
I do not understand the honor among these humans even the one I have mated forever with. Rufus still puzzles me to the point of utter frustration. My words fall upon deaf ears, he heeds his own council or that of others. I have become....a wife“ Shrugging, Sarah gathers her robe about her slender frame and returns to the cooler bedchamber.
Already the day’s sun has begun heating Nujel’m yet deep within the royal bedchamber the cool marble aids in keeping the temperature down. Sliding the robe off she slips back into her husband’s arms. Snuggling back to his body she takes one last look at the design that now rests upon his arm before laying her head down on his dark chest. “We will face whatever comes our way together my love. I pledged such at our private ceremony of binding and I hold that vow close to me now. If I am to be only a wife, I will do what I can to protect and honor you...my husband.” Slowly her fingers play upon the serpent-like design that now lays burned upon Rufus’ bicep before closing her lavender eyes once more in search of rest. |
