Kolero sat on the bench, staring at the small zen rock pond in Zento. He had been there for nearly an hour, thinking about a great many things. His parents, his training, the legion he belonged to. He had fulfilled what he set out to do, and had completed what he could learn from books and battlefield experience versus beasts. The real training was on the field now. There was only one thing left to do... His ostard, Nez.

One of the men from the dojo his father trained at arrived to meet Kolero. The man bowed, and Kolero nodded in reply. "You wished me to meet you about your ostard?" he asked. Kolero sighed, watching Nez pounce at rats not too far away. "He is getting old... I feel I should retire him. I don't want to take him into battle." The man stroked his chin. "What will you ride into battle, then? Surely you cannot retire as well," the man said. Kolero nodded. "I will simply have to find a new mount for war," Kolero said quietly. The man looked in thought for a second, then smiled. "I think I know just the thing."

The man led him to a small private stable, while Nez 'played' with rats, under the careful care of a friend he had made in Zento during his time there. "Your father had a unique animal he rode into battle with," he explained while they walked. Odd monstrous sounds echoed out from the stable. "The one in particular your father kept is too old to ride into battle now, but, it has had some offspring that is now old enough to venture out under its own strength." They entered the stable. Kolero looked in the stalls. The stalls were much wider than ones back home, seeing as the mounts here had wings. "They are... some kind of dragon?" Kolero asked. "The man smiled as one of the silver and red beasts wandered up to him and sniffed him. "They are called hiryu. Normally only a powerful tamer of beasts can control one, but the lesser breed seems to be sympathetic to our aim," he said. "Come," he added, motioning to the back of the stable.

They entered a large stall that contained several lesser hiryu of many colors. Teal, green, and olive greatly accented the normal red and silver. "The son of your fathers hiryu is named Blix," he said. As he finished his sentence, one of the olive colored ones snapped to attention, quickly walked over to Kolero, and began to sniff at his legs. "Hes a curious one, but... I think he accepts you," he said, as the Hiryu began to playfully nudge Koleros foot. "Quickly, quickly!" came a cry from outside. One of the younger samurai from the dojo came running in. "Whats wrong?" asked the man that came in with Kolero. "Theres messages floating around... about... ugh..," the young samurai said, clearly out of breath. He passed a note to Kolero. "Legion... you said..," the younger man said, stopping to catch his breath. Kolero quickly read over the note. It spoke of the Yew guilds and their allies waging war on the orcish hoarde and their allies. It spoke of the Legion of Justice, which the young samurai must have known Kolero belonged to, in overhearing a conversation. The note was to get the peopls of the Takuno Islands interested in the affairs of Britannia, before Britannia was too far gone and the hoardes of evil came to the lands of the feudal lords next. But, there was one Ilshenar native that called Britannia his home, and it was time to return to defend it.
