Sitting on some comfortable blankets staring over the obelisk into the northern night sky for the fifth straight night, Bartholomew pondered his upcoming sermon. There was a slight breeze from off the shoreline just over his left shoulder that he would occasionally turn his head towards allowing it to toss his hair from his face. Still plagued by doubt of whether it was his place to challenge politics in the lands, while on the other hand he thought out loud, “Who else would if not me?” But to make enemies of this power and nature, is it his right to place the church in such a possible path of harm? “I am correct to promote Virtues and demand that those who rule follow the Virtues, especially those who were demanded by position to rule in Virtue,” he thought. But what if his actions, no matter how well meant, put his fellow church members at peril. This cannot be his right no matter the virtue of his intent. But those of Virtue would definitely come to our protection, or would they, how is one to know.
Standing up, Bartholomew walked around the outside of the roof with thoughts still swirling. Sitting back down and pulling out a copy of the sermon. He mumbled as he read through the sermon time and again. After reading through the sermon three times, he started to read it once more, but far slower. As he read, he took out his quill and ink well to make a few notes in the margins. Should he make his words less biting, or should he take the more risky route of direct confrontation? “I should be direct, be honest with what I say, no more and no less,” he mumbled quietly. Lodi had told him to do as he saw fit and leave the consequences to him. But did Lodi really mean potential troubles as these, from all sides and all quarters. This may even set friends of Lodi and friends of the Church possibly against us. Finishing this last read and edit, Bartholomew straightened his notes and gathered the blankets. Heading to return to his office and rewrite the changes he had one final thought, “Well, this will most definitely sort out who are our friends through all challenges and those who are weak in their Virtues.
