Everything revolved around her

Having arranged the red blanket on the sand of the beach Isk could not yet feel the wind as it was picking up. With a gloved hand pressed to the small of Angelique’s back the couple watched the entertainment Isk had organised. Silent Poet created the music from the lyrics sheet the porcelain masked loyalist had provided. Isk silently mouthed the words from behind his emotionless mask and glanced to his side as he felt his wife press against him. She wore the special dress he had bought for her nights ago from the Yewish merchant, a pinkish suit of half metal once worn by northern tribal queens which gave her the appearance of a warrior bride.

“I love it” she said taking in the song and surroundings, water on three sides and sand under their feet with the red blanket and champagne behind them.

With a bow Poet showed great class and like a professional departed the scene having accepted the light claps and words of appreciation from the couple.

“You are full of surprises tonight” Angelique had stated as he wrapped her arm around his and led him to the edge of the sand where she began to stare off at the night sky.

“That was not the last of it” Isk stated and turned his head to glance at her face in profile, she only turned her head to meet his envy green eyes with her own.

“You know I have something for you as well” She stated with a smile, her long eyelashes flickering as she closed and opened her eyes in her special way. Widening his eyes from under his mask Isk opened only to be drowned out by the fireworks of the boat he had hired.

It was midnight now, the fireworks ship was right on time and the couple held hands to watch the display. This marked their anniversary, they were together and stronger than the day they first joined in marriage. As the explosive bursts lit up the stars the spectres of light danced over his porcelain mask and for a moment he knew she was thinking the same thing he was, of all the couples in the realm theirs was the greatest bond. Waving to the fireworks ship as it passed for its sixth and final time having ignited hundreds of lights in the sky Isk and Angelique were alone again and finally he felt the wind from the sea as it made his mask all the colder. As if feeling his temporary chill she placed a hand on the side of his mask, the only woman who dared to touch it, and he leaned into her so that her back would arch. Her fingers travelled through his lion mane of silvery white hair to the back of his head and they watched each other’s glances.

There was an animalistic sense to it, simply staring, appraising, he stored every bit of her posture, the coconut scent of her hair, her slender arms and how she resisted shivering in the cool wind. She broke off the hold like a retreating swan and with the greatest grace presented him with a laquer box which did not seem heavy in her hands.

“What is this?” he questioned with an icy whisper.
She only smiled and presented him an envelope with a key inside it. Reading the perfumed paper he used the key to unlock the gift box and stared at the elaborate axe in fascination. For a rare moment Isk was speechless.

“I made a fortune last night” his wife replied as if explaining the costly present which made it seem all the more endearing “And I have been meaning to get that axe for you for six year”

He held up the axe and let the box drop to the sand. Though he was touched by her gift she remained his primary treasure, the mover of his heart and his cunning equal in a plot which could see the end of a hated enemy.

(Special thanks to Silent Poet and Lone Shadow for helping me. You guys did great)
