"We're going drinking. I have a bottle of champaine I've been saving for ages. We are going out and drinking it tonight." Dealthagar smirked as Lilyth Noir looked at him in amazement. "One last night. No worries, no regrets. Tonite is my wake and I'm getting Sosaria drunk."
She laughed. "Poet's, I suppose then?"
Several thousand gold later, the bar was hopping, drinks were flowing and the merryment was in the air. Songs were sung, stories were told, goodbyes were spoken.
As the bar began to clear, Dealth puuled a musty runebook from his pack. "Last time, Lily. Last peek at the places I loved." She smiled and nodded and the gate opened.
The telescope where he had christened the Dark Awakening and propsed to Anna.
The waterfall where he had fallen in love with Lily.
The mountain pass he had never found a road to again.
The caves under Buccaneer's Den, where the Dark Awakening had trained and played.
The hidden cave under the lake, where he had found his first real treasure.
A lost marker beacon, used to power Blackthorne's invastion.
The Gate opened again, and they found themselves in a small clearing surrounded by marble pillars.
"Last stop, Lily. This is where I get off." Dealthagar smiled and a tiredness grew in his eyes.
"You mean..." Lily's voice cracked.
"the shrine of singularity." He smiled at her, as his eyes grew damp. "This is where I get off." He looked up. "It's a beautiful night."
Lilyth's chin quivvered. "Yes it is."
"You know, this place, this world, this life...." He turned to her. "I love you, Lily. I always will."
"Dealth..." Lily wiped the small tear from the corner of her eye. "I love you too. I'll never forget you. You..."
The wizard smirked. "I'm going to miss you." He paused, letting the smile creep across his face. "You know, you could come to Paragon with me."
She shook her head. "This is my place."
Dealthagar smiled and nodded. "I know. But I had to ask." He took a deep breath and found his eyes drawn back to the skies. "It is a beautiful night."
Dealthagar felt the motions of the stars, the planets aligning. This was that moment. The last walk. He turned and looked at her. There were so many things he still wanted to say, but knew he would never find the words for. "Goodbye Lily. I'm glad you were here for this. You may want to step back." He raised his hand, and gave a small wave.
Here eyes widened and she jumped back as the clearing began to glow. The tang of ozone filled the air, a crack of in human thunder rang out...
And it all went black.
Spinning....
Spinning....
Spinning....
The void, the darkness the...
A sudden flash of light and Dealthagar's vision began to clear. But waking wasn't the beautiful dreams he had seen.
The technomancer laughed. Peals of laugher rung through the wasteland. His chest heaved, his voice cracked and tears rolled down his face as he laughed.
Chaos ruled this land. He was the one to bring order.
