The dark-cloaked man walked into the tavern, excited about finally being hired again. Nothing like a late-night kill, he thought.

Without looking up, the young man could see that his meeting was about to commence. The figure walking in the door was a large but slender man, with no outstanding features except the look in his eye that made anyone shudder. He was hidden in a dark silk robe and cloak, with a hood thrown over his face. The young man at the table by te fire was pleased at his old friend's timing. "Welcome back."
The mage at the table did not seem anxious in the slightest, but the cloaked man knew better. He had been in his business for twenty years and could tell impatience from fear with ease. The man he was about to meet for the first time in ten years definitely had no fear. It is I who fears, he thought.
"So what is your name this week? Falcon? Wolf?" The mage tried to show friendship at the man's rapid name change habits, and fortunately it went well.
"I have been known as 'Jackal' for some time now. I borrowed the name from the killer in the myth. But only close ones call me 'Jack'." The man smiled showing he had no intentions against the mage. The two old partners clasped hands and Jack sat down. "It's been years, Dreamer."
"So it has. But you still owe me one job. I hate to impose after all this time but this is something that must be done immediately. Can you do it?"
"I don't see why not," the assassin replied. "But why immediately?"
"The man I want you to find poses a deep threat to both you and me, as well as the entire shard of Ilshenar. He seeks to activate a rift that was recently found in our moongates. This rift, he claims, may open a doorway to a whole new world. The problem is, if he fails, he may destroy ours." The Dreamer did feel anxious but he put his feelings away. He wasn't about to tell the man, no matter how close a friend, his true intentions behind killing the man. "The man I speak of is the son of Robin Carver Skye, if you remember our old 'ally'."
"Yes, I remember. You did well to remove him. I never knew a mage could become an ophidian."
"Let alone a daemon." The mage smiled. His days of posing as Kronus ended long ago when he faced the real Kronus. "Anyway. Robin had a son that you didn't know of. He was a good friend of mine, when we were young. But his confidence and pride overwhelmed him when he thought he could fight alongside me. And he knows now the consequences of fighting off his own death. He still has the brand on his back."
"You're not talking about that paladin are you?" the assassin inquired. "I don't see how he could be overcome by any assassin of any skill. He is too watchful. The only way he could fall is if someone were to catch him head on, because he cannot be snuck up on."
"Then you know him well. But i know his weaknesses, including the one very few know of. It is this flaw that I want you to exploit. If you succeed, I will ensure that you achieve the fame you've always wanted. And if you fail, you will never see the light of day again."
At this thought, the assassin shuddered. He knew the awesome power in the man before him, knew the dreadful things he could do to someone who crossed him. He didn't want to play that game.
"Alright, I'll do it. What is his name?"
"First, I want you to ensure that I can be there. I want to see him suffer. I want to see the corpse of Steel Skye before me."

The assassin walked out of the tavern with a grin on his face. If there was one flaw that was utterly embarassing, this had to be it. This was an easy job if there ever was one.

Finishing his wine, the Dreamer prepared to write the longest letter he had ever written. I have always known the men to be treacherous in each of their own ways. But in this letter I will account for actions I personally saw and an entire town can vouch for, the criminal injustices of Steel Skye and the man called the Jackal...
