The Second Dynasty of The Order of Sanctus:
Greetings all those who wish to hear a tale. It is one of a boy who grew up too soon, yet in so doing displayed the virtue of Sacrifice. His name is Andreas Dragonbane and he is the son of Huma & Naissia Dragonbane. At the time of his birth, many rulers, guild masters, friends, and the curious saw the son of the power Lord Regent, Huma and there was much celebration, yet that time passed when darker scenarios befell the realm.
It was late winter when Huma resigned from The Regency, as once grand arena of leadership, fellowship, and love under the guiding hands of virtue. Alas, his father departed for awhile and the Lady Naissia was left to ponder her son’s fate. Also troubled, perhaps gone mad for mysterious reasons, Naissia for a short time became unable to care for the Andreas, now age 5. He was beginning to show promise of an education.
Andreas was warded, for a short time to now Lord Arieus De’Chevia, and at the time Arieus was the weapons master of House De’Chevia. As a young boy, Andreas learned the basics of the common tongue and even began to develop his wit and use of the sword. It was also under the instruction of the reclusive Count Daynle De’Chevia that inspired him to learn the ways of the forest and how man impacts upon the balance of nature.
A good degree of wisdom gained and a certain amount of growth in fortitude, Andreas was then returned to his mother, Naissia, whom had recovered well enough to decide the young man’s fate, give him the spiritual armor, and assist him in choosing his likely destiny. When the time was rite for his mother to again let go, she advised Andreas to perhaps consider The Order of Sanctus and present himself to Lord Talon Skyfire.
Nervous and quite reluctant, young Andreas traveled from the northern mountains of Malas, departing the mighty Citadel Dragonbane, seat of House De’Chevia, well armored and in suitable condition to offer his services to a king. In the early summer, Andreas arrived at Blackguard Castle, The White Gate, and there upon the golden throne was Lord Skyfire, awaiting his arrival.
Talon did not give any credence to the fact that the young man was of noble birth, and seemed not to care. Lord Skyfire was a busy man at that time, with a vast army and many things to attend. He looked at the boy and only offered a position as a mere ward, told Andreas to shadow him, and learn!
As the ward of Skyfire, age 12, he began to study the great man, his proclamations, the way things were handled, and the actions of both the military body and the citizens. Andreas was also quickly developing skills as a paladin, of which Lord Skyfire strongly recommended.
A couple years and a half score moths seemed to pass and it was time for Andreas to choose whether to stay in Sanctus or depart. He chose to stay. He was placed as a recruit now, in the division of paladins, and was now under the strict observation of noble Lord Zarlox, then captain of the division. Again Andreas worked hard to reach his goals to improve his skills in chivalry as well as wielding the sword. Many fierce battles were fought, there were drills and training, there was also fellowship and many good times.
Later the following year he was granted the ascension to Paladin Acolyte and his skills further increased, as did the power of The City State of Sanctus. His long time Captain Zarlox was promoted to Grand General and positions shifted. Andreas had apparently shown enough progress to be knighted, after fulfilling the long list of demanding tasks to be a Sanctus knight. He was also made First Paladin, placing the young man second in charge of said division.
Then there was a mass exodus of higher ranking officers in the guild, many departed at once, and Lord Talon and his Chancellors did well to keep the might of Sanctus alive. During this shift in numbers within the order, it so happened that the Lord Paladin left a vacancy which Andreas filled at the age of 18.
Named Lord Paladin, Andreas again showed great promise as a leader and also as a follower to both his liege lord and his men. The citizens of Sanctus were proud and the community in general seemed pleased at the status of the young man.
It was then that he met Princess Tatinana Skyfire; they courted with permission from Talon, fell in love, and were proclaimed legally wed. Since Lord Skyfire had no offspring, it was assumed that Andreas would maybe one day take his place. The young Dragonbane did not ever realize that would be sooner that expected.
More time passed, and the Lord Paladin Dragonbane continued to flourish with the ups and downs of politics, the bloody battles, the enriching and soothing warmth of his study on the virtues, and his love for Tatinana and his mother. Huma returned briefly, and stated he was proud of his son. His mother was always there to guide him. His wife there to be his inspiration. Upon the walls of their home hung the many awards, commendations, and medals he had earned. It was a happy time, yet a sad time, but they endured together.
It was almost the beginning of Fall, in Andrea’s 20th year, that he was proclaimed Duke of Sanctus. Things began to become tiresome for the aging Lord Skyfire, and it was very soon that he decided to leave the realm on Atlantic, forever. Lord Skyfire, now after many years of knowing the stature and qualities of Andreas, asked him to assume the throne of Sanctus.
Thus began the Second Dynasty of The Order and The City State of Sanctus. _________________
