Vaen moved slowly into the dungeon Destard, making his way along the walls, quietly stepping deeper and deeper into the dungeon as though not to wake any of the sleeping dragons. Step after step, he could hear the snoring of what seemed to be thousands of dragons across the long cavern.
Vaen took small, quiet breaths, taking no chances in waking up one of the dragons, who would in turn wake the other thousands of dragons. Vaen knew he would have no chance against all of them.
Slowly he walked towards the northwest end of the first floor of Destard, and descended into another open area, which was seemingly empty. To his left was another path leading down, so he quietly walked down there.
As he entered the depths of Destard, he glanced around the rather well-lit area. Small fires burning on the walls of the depths of this dungeon kept this area lit very well. Vaen glanced around more.
Vaen looked to his right, only to see one of the biggest beasts known to this world, an Ancient Wyrm. It was sleeping soundly. Vaen walked slowly over to it. Vaen's eyes opened wide and his jaw dropped as he glanced over this ancient wyrm. The scars on its side show that it has been in numerous fights, and has obviously won. A good number of adventurers probably traveled down here in hopes to slay this beast, but with no luck.
Just as Vaen turned to walk away from it, he was tackled to the ground from behind. A fit quickly closed in on the back of Vaen's head, and the impact pushed Vaen's head into the ground. Vaen groaned in pain, but couldn't tell who or what was hitting him. He felt a bone-like hand on the back of his head, repeatedly shoving his face into the ground. Over, and over again, until blood began dripping down his face. Vaen closed his eyes tight and rolled over, pushing whoever it was off of him. Vaen quickly stood up, and glanced over at the man who was attacking him.
"Marcus..."
"Well well Vaen! Never thought I'd see you down here. Looks like you have yourself some courage afterall. Although the line between bravery and stupidity is very thing."
"What are you doing here?"
"That is not for your knowledge. You, however, will die."
Marcus charged at Vaen again, knocking him backwards on the ground. Marcus punched down at Vaen's face. Vaen put his arms up in defense, blocking several of the punches. Vaen put his hands up to Marcus's chest and grabbed his robe, tossing him to the side. Vaen then got on top of Marcus and placed his hands at Marcus's neck, and begin to squeeze, choking him. Marcus groaned loudly. And just as Vaen reached for his katana, a loud roar could be heard from roughly fifteen paces behind them. Vaen looked back only to see that they had awoken the Ancient Wyrm, and it had noticed them.
Vaen looked down at Marcus and then back to the wyrm. Vaen got up and armed his katana, and looked at Marcus. Marcus got up and stood beside Vaen, looking at the Ancient Wyrm.
The Wyrm began charging at the both of them. Marcus quickly casted a spell that turned the wyrm's beautiful skin into a dry, corpse-like condition. Vaen muttered a spell, and his weapon seemed to be engulfed in a light flame. Vaen ran to the side of the wyrm as it ran towards Marcus. Vaen slashed his katana at the wyrm's side, penetrating it with ease as blood began to spill out of its side. The wyrm roared in anger, and quickly turned to Vaen, knocking Vaen over with a quick head butt. Vaen got up quickly as the Wyrm charged at him. Marcus quickly casted another spell that seemed to close the wyrm's wind pipe, chocking it. The wyrm began to cough loudly, and Vaen readied his weapon again, rushing forward and slashing at the wyrm's neck. Vaen continued to slash about four more times, as blood began to pour out of the wyrm.
Vaen took a few steps back as the wyrm fell to the ground, still coughing and bleeding profusely. Vaen walked up to the wyrm slowly and lifted his katana, and swiftly slashed down at the wyrm's neck, severing its head. Vaen then stuck his katana into the wyrm's head, and sat down next to it to catch his breath.
Vaen looked around for Marcus, but he was out of sight. He wasn't anywhere to be seen. They had fought together to overcome one of the land's most fearsome beasts, only to become enemies immediately after. Vaen laid back down next to the head of the ancient wyrm, staring at the ceilling, thinking about what had just happened. _________________
