Kain Elderan left from the Court of Truth in Yew, his mind awash in thought. Slowly he rode his loyal steed Zeus through the city, looking around at his beloved home. Always would he call this home no matter where he might lay at night. He had been raised here, had gotten married here, had even had his own children here. He nodded to a few local citizens as he rode by, but his thoughts were elsewhere. The news he had heard this eve had been very disturbing.

Arlin claimed to have power over the Yew area, despite what others might wish. His army was encamped within the town's limits, and Kain had heard of patrols roaming the nearby lands. Supposedly this army was here to help the town, according to it's half-ogre leader. Kain's words to Arlin had fell on deaf ears it seemed. The man was bullheaded, but such was part of his heritage. His willingness to draw his sword proved beyond a shadow of a doubt what his true intentions were. He was simply another who sought power through force of arms. Diplomacy seemed futile with such a person since he obviously believed himself to be in the right.

Kain looked up when Zeus stopped. Glancing around, he sighed as he recognized the place. The old castle walls loomed over him. Ghosts of the past passed before his vision, of better times with good friends. The day he wed his wife within the very walls he looked upon seemed so long ago. His heart fluttered as thoughts of Skylar seemed to overwhelm him. A single tear slid down his cheek as he pictured her beautiful face, her long flowing blond hair, her dazzling smile. That smile had always brought him hope for the future. He wondered where exactly she was, as he had done a million times already. He uttered a prayer that she return to him soon.

Kain turned Zeus away from the castle, pushing thoughts of his wife aside. Many things had taken place during his absence, that he felt needed to be dealt with. Perhaps it was not his place, but perhaps it was. The Regency seemed a shell of what it once was. He had learned from others that a new Regent stood upon the throne. The new Regent, Rufus Oryan, had made many changes within the organization. How had this man allowed a band of racist zealots to join an organization that was built upon the Virtues? These men persecuted those who were different, which went against everything the Virtues taught. Martin Willow had told Kain they were part of the reason that he withdrew the Trinsic Council from the Regency. Did this Rufus not think something might be very wrong, when a Council that had long been revered among the lands, withdrew from his organization? Kain had also heard of a purging of many loyalists from the Regency as well.

Kain opened a runebook inscribed with markings that he had made many years ago. Muttering arcane words, he felt the rush of magical energy as he was instantly teleported across many miles, to an area near Trinsic. When the world settled back into its proper place, he slowly dismounted. Zeus nuzzled against him, sensing the feelings that surged through his friend and master. Kain looked around at the place he had often come to clear his head. This shrine represented all that he believed in, all that was right. He knelt down onto his knees, and began to push aside the layers of dust that had built up on the shrine. Gold symbols were revealed as he cleared the shrine of its grime. The chalice inscribed in the stone seemed to gleam brightly, even after all these years. Kain's thoughts turned to the past again, as he remembered his fellow Sages, and the famed Oracles. What would the Oracles do in this time of strife? So many had strayed from the Virtues. He thought about Aleph, and wondered if his teacher and friend would look badly upon him now, for his failures.

Kain then knelt before the altar and recited the ritual words.

"Honor is the courage to defend and uphold the Truth."
"An honorable man is always loyal to his duties, companions, and beliefs."

As the words echoed in his mind, he felt them pierce him to his very soul. Clarity came from within, and he knew what he must do. It was time to do what was right. He stood slowly, thoughts turning into action. He mounted Zeus and quickly cast the spell to take him back to town. When he arrived, he sought out a messenger. A few moment later, the young boy ran off with the message for the Mayors of Trinsic and Yew.

My friends,
It is time that we start doing what is right and just. I wish to arrange a meeting with both of you as soon as you are able. Let Honor guide us all in this time of strife.

Signed,
Kain Elderan, Sage of Honor

Lilyth greeted the young man bearing a messege from Lord Kain. He looked exhausted after such a trek. She quickly called on Maiya to take the youth to the kitchens and let him eat and rest while she replied. Lilyth smiles to herself thinking of the candied dates that had arrived the past day. Any young one would love those. The young man safely in Maiyas care, Lilyth read the letter.

Lilyth understood Lord Kains concerns over teh changes in the realm. He was a fine man. Glancing at the signature an excellent choice as Sage of Honor, she thought.

Lord Kain,

I would be most pleased to meet with you M'Lord. I shall not be available until tomorrow eve by 9 in the eastern skies. Please let me know if this is an acceptable time for you.

Respectfully,

Lady Lilyth Noir - Runic Knights
Mayor of Yew

Lilyth made her way to the kitchen and handed Maiya the note. She noticed the young man slumbering a hand full of dates near him. She smiled "when the lad awakes, have him return this to Lord Kain". Maiya nodded in response.
