It has been a while since I last gazed upon my creation. The one drone with the power to learn from her mistakes. Standing there in the shadows inactive due to neglect. It is unfitting for any soul to be discarded as such.
The Awakening thinks they can keep me away from my birth place. The gods couldn't keep me in the sea much less can I think that the Awakening has any power to stop me. This castle houses the greatest achievement of my life and I have come to destroy her.
"drone, activate and perform system scan."
The machine activates and complies as if it were only asleep for a few minutes. the only evidence of her current state of neglect is the dust and cobwebs covering her armor.
"All systems are nominal Master Kotare." replied the drone.
She stood there with the innocence of a child, yet she was a killer. A machine to do the dirty deeds of the Dark Awakening. Kotare knew what he had to do. He had a hard time with the next phrase as it was like ordering his daughter to commit suicide.
"activate directive 17 and execute. Command overide 77136 Kotare"
The Drone started Directive 17 as instructed and executed countdown.
"Self destruct eminant in 1 minute."
This gave Kotare enough time to destroy what notes he left behind and bar the door from the outside. The Castle seemed empty save for the drone and Kotare. Standing guard at the door to make sure his work would not be carried on by another, he waited for the sound of explosions in the next room.
Moments later the explosions go off and he steps outside where parts of drone lay scatered on the grass from an opening in the wall. among the parts was the memory core. Kotare picked it up and rode away with it.
He wept at what he had done, but he knew it had to happen. Her spirit was now free from the clutches of the Awakening and she was nolonger an asset to them. |

Dealthagar strode through the halls of the castle, the crystal on his wrist lightly flashing. "Mott? What's going on here?"
The wild eyed officer stood from his crouch and held out a few pieces of twisted and burnt metal. "It seems the passcodes for the castle rear entrance were never changed. We had an intruder."
Dealthagar took the pieces and examined them. "Drone parts? What in the world would they be doing in a storage hall? We haven't moved any of the facilities here yet, have we?"
Mott twisted his mouth in thought, pausing before answering. "I had a couple of the older generation drones cleaning fixtures for the new tank array earlier. Found them packed away in the back of your lab. I didn't think you'd mind."
"Of course not." Dealthagar chuckled to himself. Unity had made a perfect choice for the Herald of Order. He was meticulous, thorough and exacting. A more perfect Senior commander couldn’t have been had. Dealthagar examined the part further and his brow furrowed. “This isn’t my work!”
Mott leaned in closely and smirked. “The gear ratio.”
“Good eye. Too shallow a key. Too many spokes. This would wear far too quickly and would need far too much maintenance.”
“The burn marks on the wall look like it exploded.” Mott touched the ash and brought it to his nose. “Probably a faulty destruction module.”
Dealthagar nodded. “Either that, or this is one of the first generation units the apprentices built when I first taught them the art. I'm surprised such a crude piece of work lasted this long. I'm just glad nothing important was damaged. Either way it matters not. Cleaning drones are easily replaced.” He handed Mott a sack of gold. “Go to Buccaneer’s Den and purchase a couple slaves. We can convert them and have them clean up this mess." The Oracle paused. "Speak with Unity and have this entrance sealed, and the lock codes changed. We don't need another peasant stumbling around and getting himself blown up. We could have perfectly good equipment damaged."
Mott chuckled. “As you wish, Oracle. Master thy fate.”
“Good eve Herald. Destiny be yours.” _________________
