Hail one and all, this is Leshok Majere, reporting to you all after months of absence and silence with the next Blind Eye Report. This issue: Necromancy, dark and evil, or just mis-understood?

Most places you go, or most people you listen to, you will hear the Necromancy is the dark, evil twisted art of magic used to corrupt the living and disturb the dead. After so long of hearing this, I decided to look into it, could it be it was all just bias opinion? After all, how many Necromancers do I know?

During my research I found the following facts which are undisputable in my mind. First fact: Necromancy is a form of magic used to manipulate and or control life and death. Second fact: the general view of manipulating or control life and death is construed as being evil, for power is known to corrupt. Now I bring to mind this question, is anything inheritly evil? or are the qualities of necromancy just more appealing to those who tend to practice evil?

The instinct to survive and live is strong in all living things, so isn't attempting to control life and death just the next natural step towards survival? I am not saying everyone should go out and start conjuring skeletons or have horde minions following them around, but shouldn't the basis of this magic be expanded on, to possibly find cures for more exotic diseases, or to help fight pre-mature deaths of loved ones?

From the perspective though of my paladin past, I still believe that most whom align themselves on the side of light still be weary of necromancy and the power it holds. Yet should try to be a little open minded towards future developements it could lead to. I mean I have seen everyone from orcs and deamons using chivalry, if an orc can understand the usefullness of chivalry, perhaps we can examine necromancy a little closer?

So in conclusion: good, evil, nothing is black and white, it is the use and reason behind such things and actions that make them such. Whether you are a necromancer who uses his mastery of life and death for good, or an evil-doer whom utilizes the virtues, one must ask themselves? Anymore, who is right? and who is wrong?

-Leshok Majere,
Head Emissary,
Blind Eye Legion.

I agree about Necromancy being a magic art focused on the living and the dead... probably more so on the dead.

But I would not call it inherently evil as some would. Look at real world examples of what some would call Necromancers.

In places that still practice Vodoo rites, the Vodoo shamans are often described as being in one of two camps... those that practice 'Good' Vodoo to benefit the living... and those that practice 'bad' Vodoo to curse or destroy enemies.

I think Necromancers in the game could follow the same bent to some degree in. Those that would use their magic in support of good or to protect others... and those that are truly evil.

If someone wanted to RP the good necromancers they might want to consider adding some added dimensions to their RP by being at least hesistant about using certain Necro spells (which would be the ones truly evil). If think someone doing that for RP would make for a very interesting char.

P.S. Wasn't sure you wanted replies but I wasn't sure what the actual question was for the Yes or No.
