It started to rain in windswept dashes of grey. It sizzled across the rooftops and the streets. It bubbled through the gutters, rinsing away flakes of pollen. It pattered against the still heads of those that stood on the beaches looking out from the cursed island at the few ships sending the Humanis Voice out into the safer world. It both kissed the uppermost twigs of the tropical trees and plummeted through the field of purple flowers. Converting at the forks between branches, twigs and homes into strings, threading the darkness with lines of glittering silver. The wetness rained down and dropped like marbles along Magincia’s streets and branded across the skin of those few who walked the city after Khay’Thall’s death.

Isk passed the avenues allowing the overwhelming feeling of dread to soak into his being like the rain which sprinkled down on him. The shower which began so quickly and suddenly only an hour after the death of the Manifesto’s writer became just a humid and sour memory in the air.
“Look at me!” he almost heard the body yell at him as he knelt at its side, Rashid and Angelique just at the door to the healer’s but he could not and knowing that he will relive his moment of weakness in his mind began to gnarl at him. A life of keeping emotion suppressed, relaxed by marriage only to be hardened again by this death, the death of a mentor and student at once.
“An equal” he finally said unsure if it was delayed rain which made its way past the eye sockets of his mask or something else.
