"Where did you see her?" Thraxas inquired, intrigued by the information supplied by his former henchman and bodyguard, Scar. The two of them were sitting facing one another across the table in the Director's office.

"I did not actually see her. A gargoyle approached me and Demi while we were at the tavern. He must have overheard me mention your name in a conversation we were having. I caught sight of someone who looked like her sitting with him when we entered the place. I assumed she was with him."

"And he wanted to speak to me? What about, did he say?"

Scar shook his head. "He did not say what it was. He gave me a name and that is all. He seemed certain you could find him."

"Well, I am good at finding people... but I am not that good. I will send word to her mother and find out where she is. It has been a long time since I have spoken to her."

"She is rather much like her mother... looks, I mean. Quite a lovely young lady. You should be proud."

Thraxas smiled. "Oh, I am. I only regret I did not spend enough time with her before she left. She grew up fast and was quite independent of anyone or anything."

Scar nodded. "Well, that is all. I will be going now." He rose to leave and bowed. "Good day to you," he added.

Thraxas bowed his head once. "The same to you. Tell Deminatza I send my regards."

"I will," Scar replied before leaving.

Thraxas located a sheet of parchment and began a letter to Ceinwyn:

"Dearest Ceinwyn,

I hope you fare well. I do well enough but keep very busy. I have come to accept the issue with these horns, so that is not what I come to you about. Apparently, our daughter is with a gargoyle and he wishes to speak to me. I assume it is about her, but who can tell? Do you still keep in contact with her? If so, or if you know her whereabouts, please tell me so I can meet with her before meeting him. I know the two of you have had some issues in the past, but I truly need to talk to her. Any information you can provide will be appreciated.

A visit from you would do me good also. You are welcome to the castle anytime. If you send word in advance, I can prepare a meal for us. There is much we can discuss.

Your Servant,
Thraxas"

He sealed it in a brass post cylinder and tied it to Harbinger's leg before sending the raven on its way.

"Harbinger! It's been a while, beast!" Ceinwyn greeted the huge bird like an old friend, ruffing his feathers a bit before placing him on a tabletop. He was served a plate of raw meat as she read the letter and penned her reply.

Greetings, dear Thraxas,

Kale has returned to my fold, albeit with a lot of discipline. She remains her usual self for the most part. I shall pass on your request to her. Likely the gargoyle you speak of is Ruzhel. She seems fond of him. That may be something to do with you, as he is also of red flesh and horns. I will not speculate as to why this one is so eager to see you.

I may just take you up on that offer in the near future.

Always,

Ceinwyn

P.S. Harbinger ate very well while he stayed here. It may take him longer to return with his fat stomach.
