Stepping out of the shadows once more I carefully looked around the corner had I been followed I thought to myself. With each step I took I realized that it was my mind playing tricks on me, I was alone it was that way for a long time now. Soon I would be home, or so I told myself. I walked to the nearest dock and paid the usual price. Traveling by ship was common now; it was the easiest way to get around quickly without being noticed.
I stayed below decks for most of the trip only going up top for the occasional interaction with the crew. The trip was uneventful, sure there was the occasional battle with harsh weather nothing to be worried about though I knew this crew was experienced and could handle it. The nights I enjoyed staring off into the blackness of the night it reminded me the shadows it brought me a sense of peace.
As morning rose I saw the islands in the distance, home was near and I could sense it. The air here was different it is hard to explain unless you have experienced it for yourself. As I looked around I noticed that there seemed to be much more boat traffic that I remember before I left. The day carried on the air around us began to grow colder; I knew we were passing past winter spur the home of the lady of the snow. Nightfall was soon upon us as the ship continued south around the island of isamu. As we passed the valley of the dragons I saw the outline of Mt Sho off in the distance.
The following morning I awoke to find the ship docking in makato. I offered my thanks as I made my way towards the inn. The city was barely awakening as I walked along the dirt roads. The smells of fresh baked goods from the bakers shop, the fishermen casting their nets even the people in the stables checking on the animals it brought a sense of calming that I didn’t expect to find. Stopping near the inn I looked up to the sky and took a deep breath in, I was home. |
