The skeletal magus shambled toward its orcish master and stopped at a wave of her hand. The reek of rotted flesh and bone which it exuded would have evoked an immediate gag reflex in any human. But it did not seem to faze her.
"Go to the forest in Malas and retrieve the reagents for me," she ordered. "Be on your guard as it is a holy place to those living nearby. Kill whom you must kill, but bring them to me. I will need a great many of them."
The mage's jaw, held on by mere shreds of dessicated tendon, opened as if words would follow, but there was no sound. The skull-like head bowed once. The undead minion then turned and shuffled away to fulfill its appointed task. _________________ "If a criminal has what you want, you do business with him." |

The zombie, for that is what it was despite its magic ability, crept slowly along the forest in search of prey. It had no name, but even if it had one, it would neither remember it or seek to. All it knew was that its master had ordered it to kill the Tree Fellows in the forest east of the Orc fort in Malas, and retrieve the wood from them. It neither cared for the purpose of the wood, nor the dangers posed by such an action... it simply had no fear of anything.
The Tree Fellows were not formidable opponents. They could strike sometimes hard with their branch-like arms, but otherwise had no means of attack. Killing them was easy for the skeletal magus... a few fireballs, firefields and the like and they were despatched. The wood was heavy, however, so many trips were needed to haul it away.
Before it departed a final time for the day, it view from a distance one of the Tree Fellows which had successfully evaded its full attack, though not without damage. Movement was not a forte of the zombie-creature, and the long strides of the Tree Fellow took it quickly away from harm's way. Being a practical creature, devoid of emotion, the zombie simply turned its attention to another Tree Fellow nearby. Now it saw the burned escapee talking to a human dressed in gleaming armor. It had no orders to kill humans, or the pixies which flitted further south, so it returned home with its load of wood.
It dropped the wood in the cellar and stood back waiting for new directions from its master.
"You have done well, magus. Just a few more trips and your work will be done," Magda stated.
The zombie mage raised an arm and pointed a boney finger to nowhere in particular, trying to communicate. Its simple thoughts were easy to read by the priestess.
"Human... you saw a human warrior?" she inquired.
The zombie fell silent, dropping its arm back to its side.
"If anyone, or anything, tries to stop you or interfere with your task, kill them---that is my wish," she stated. "Do not chase after them, but defend yourself and complete your mission."
The zombie understood, though it made no indication of it. _________________ "If a criminal has what you want, you do business with him." |
