ENTRY: "It feels as if I am being watched, but perhaps it is only the nature of the chase. An animal hunted can survive only by being careful and alert, and though no animal am I, the same things I must be. Still, I cannot fathom what happened to me recently... the flash and amber glow of my skin. The sense of being watched seems to have begun then. Am I under a curse? Am I the object of scrying and unknown eyes? So far I have kept moving so often that it would be difficult to locate me at any given hour, but I must sleep and I can only do that in a place I know to be safe."

ENTRY: "I may have found a suitable location to reside! Kayla sent word to me of it. She left a note at our familiar tree which I found... or, I should say, one of the pixies showed me. I will not speak of it lest I lose this journal and my haven be discovered. She also mentioned her kinswoman, Duchess Molly, who is willing to help us. I would like to speak to her, to explain why I had to do what I did. It grieves me even now to think of what I did to those poor oafs who guarded me. They had no chance. I murdered them in cold blood. I cannot forgive myself. I hope Kayla can. Surely she will understand the pain they caused me, with their insults and batterings. It is only by wondrous chance that they did not kill me, or emasculate me, so deep was their depravity. Only a beast like Thraxas could find and use such beings, but I am sure he chose them knowing I would do to them what I did. If I am a monster, he is worse, though that does little to soothe my aching conscience."

ENTRY: "I am leaving a note at the tree for my beloved. I will seek an audience with the Duchess, whom I shall have to trust. If Kayla believes in her, then so shall I. Perhaps some compromise can be reached. I dare not stand trial in Yew for I know my doom would be sealed. If there is a way out of this dilemma, maybe she can help me find it."

ENTRY: "I have been captured, but not turned over to Thraxas, as yet. My captors are humans, but they are benevolent and kindly disposed toward me. I am a friend in the house of one Jolicia. They call this place, Ashencrosse. It is a village constructed within the confines of what seems to be an ancient orcish fortress. We have discussed plans to remove the curse from me and also to consult Duchess Molly about my ultimate disposition. I have faith they will do what is right. I have told them all I know and admitted my personal guilt. Perhaps some good will result from this affair, if it will save Heartwood from destruction. That is a small cost for my freedom, and even my life"
