It's just a box of rain
I don't know who put it there
Believe it if you need it
or leave it if you dare
But it's just a box of rain
or a ribbon for your hair
Such a long long time to be gone
and a short time to be there.
~Robert Hunter (For The Grateful Dead)

“My Dear Songbird...” Cezanne read the letter, having arrived home to the theatre after an extended visit to Vesper. The accompanying package was carefully – no, obsessively and overprotectively wrapped. She finished the letter and laid it aside, smiling as she unwrapped....and unwrapped...until she finally revealed the object inside. The statuette was delicate and beautiful. She lifted it up, balancing it on her palm. The Peach Fairy was poised in graceful dance, wings iridescent and laced intricately with holes that would whistle when the wind passed through.

Nestled in the box beneath the statue was a bottle of Cove Spring Ale. Cezanne rubbed her thumb over the label on the bottle, then placed it carefully in the box again. That bottle would wait till she visited Arahim herself.

Cezanne placed the disheveled box and letter atop a huge paper parcel containing the posters for her latest casting call, and took the fairy upstairs to the garden. Beneath the peach tree she knelt, her skirts pooling around her in the cool spring grass. She placed the fairy carefully and listened intently as the breeze glittered ever-so-slightly with the fairy's song. Quietly shaded from the afternoon sun by young leaf and peach blossom, Cezanne closed her eyes and breathed new life as leaf and petal fluttered.

So Arahim's my next door neighbour now. Suppose I'll have to pay a visit. With ale.
