Kayla found her surroundings very much to her liking. Her kinswoman, the Duchess Kaldhel, had given her an apartment, splendidly furnished in elvish fashion. It helped greatly to subdue the displaced, away-from-home, feelings she was already having.

She could not stop thinking about her beloved Typernion. The elf male was everything she had ever wanted in a husband, and now, on the very cusp of their wedding, he was the prisoner of a man who had nearly been the death of her years ago---Regent Thraxas.

Molly had listened sympathetically while Kayla explained to her what had happened. At certain points, her facial expressions conformed to the images conjured by the tale: sadness, concern, disappointment and resignation. "The Regent will listen to me as he has done before," she said confidently. "House Gauntlet is a member nation of the Maritime Union. That will help. I am sure he will listen to reason. But, and although I trust your word, I must be absolutely certain: Typernion is innocent; he has no dealings with those who are in rebellion, as far as you know?"

Kayla was not offended. She knew her kinswoman had to be sure before she committed herself to the defense of someone she did not know. "He is innocent, your grace. He has been with me most of the time, and he has spoken to me of the harm being done by the raiders and rioters. He loves Yew and would do nothing to bring danger nor damage to it. I would know if he had."

Molly nodded, smiling. She placed her hand on that of her cousin's. "Good enough. Now, rest and leave it to me."

Kayla returned the smile, bowing her head. "You are too good to me, your grace. I thank you, and I know Ty will also."

"Ty. I like that," Molly said. "You seem happy. I want it to remain that way. You deserve it."

Kayla watched her go. Renewed hope swelled within her heart.
