Things were not improving in Yew, nor elsewhere, it seemed. A general resentment of the "established order" pervaded the minds of many in the land. Ordinary citizens, even the monks and jailors of Yew, had been arrested for burning and inciting riot. Thraxas has ceased attempting to aid the towns of Union affiliates, deciding to concentrate his attention on the needs of Yew. Raids had diminished, but not the arson of the rioters, and each day brought a new threat to its peace and normalcy.

Thraxas was not entirely consumed with vindictiveness, and he was not the least bit fearful that his rule of Yew would be diminished or lost. His own chaotic nature, not to mention his diabolical background and history, savored the reckless, angry, stabs at boring, relentless, Order. He could relate to the townsfolk's unrest, unhappiness and anger, for he had once been enslaved to a god and his capricious use of power. Now he knew what his god had felt... the overwhelming desire to reassert his authority over and against rebellion, even while he savored the emotions of anger and hate which prompted and fueled it.

He had ordered stocks of food and clothing be distributed by the monks and others who wanted to assist. And while he directed the efforts, he also made sure he was there himself handing out the food, clearing the debris, dousing the flames, and arresting the perpetrators. He could tell from the words and expressions of those he had aided, he had earned the respect of many. That, too, felt good.

How long this would continue... how it would affect the established order... what would be the outcome in the end... he could not tell. But he remembered an old adage spoken to him by his degenerate god so long ago... "Never miss an opportunity to take advantage of a crisis." That, he did not intend to do.
