"How Did You Come Up With Your UO Characters' Names?"

My char, Ditto was a totally random accident created by AD&D rp years ago. Ditto has such a long birth name consisting of several names that her dad constantly forgot them and just took to calling her by Ditto, the shorter form of D'ittoana, (a piece of her full name). The use of several names given to the newborn of the family was a gesture of protecting them from evil demons, daemons, and other creatures of the the Nine Hells,.....umm.......well. LMAO!

Imryrr was just the one name cause Taro preferred it simple & direct, (Ditto wanted it longer). She gets the name cause her eyes are the color of a Melnibone's when they are in the "dreaming" state of awareness or trance state...and the capitol of Ditto's homeland is called Imryrr which literally means "the Dreaming City".

Bree'Dorian is a name with more down to earth meaning. Personally I just love the name Bree and always wanted to use it for a character but never made one that I thought fit it. the 'Dorian part I gave to her more thinking of the Dark Order and how so like evil Spartans they are & were. For ppl who aren't history buffs, Dorians are the group that made up many of ancient Greece' people, especially with one branch that founded Sparta. But the branch didn't have a femmie sounding name so I just went with Dorian. *grins*

Okies, so, anyone else wanna share?

*HUGS* & HAPPY TIMES

in all honesty i didn't even come up with the name aulbrey. years ago when i first started one of my friends pulled me into this wonderful addiction called ultima online. back then i knew nothing about rp so i had cheap generic names. he eventually left the game but asked if i would take over his account just incase he decided to come back. he eventually did but by that time i had started to rp with aulbrey and well she was known to randomly propose to people at the bank. he got his account back and changed her name haha. i eventually remade aulbrey on my own account.

a drunken monk is my crafter and well i named him when i was drunk one night so umm yea
i got other chars but they are not very important

At a martial arts gym that I trained at a few years ago, one of my training parters was a professional fighter named Enoch who was known for having all kinds of crazy hairstyles. I actually saw a photo of him with dyed red bi-hawks while browsing through MMA magazines at Borders once. So, I gave my character a mohawk and called him Enoch in honor of my friend and training partner.

I also had a character named "Pancakes" in MTC a few years ago, who was also named after a friend. I knew two guys with the same first name, with last names of Pankow and Cornwell, so we ended up calling them Pancakes and Cornflakes to avoid confusion. After a while I stopped playing Pancakes for the most part, in favor of characters with less silly names.

My other MTC character Jeremiah Salmon was created shortly after I watched "Jeremiah Johnson" with a friend of mine and we couldn't stop singing the little song from the movie. I might get this character re-guilded and play him at some point...he's not quite as entertaining as Enoch though.

My first UO char was on Lake Superior and I named him "Sir Cracter" (also my ICQ name). I got this while looking at the "Character Name" prompt and just took the word "character" and dropped the first "h" and "a". Then made him "Sir" as I always wanted to be a medival knight.

Grig'nag came about when I just took first two gutteral sounds that came out of my throat when trying to think of an orc name.

Izrem Verin'Vlos - The first name just struck me as simple to remember/type for others while also having a sort mystical lyric to it. "Verin'Vlos" translates to "Evil Blood" in Ilythiiri and was simply the family name he came from as agreed upon by myself and the other player I made drow with in order to join House L'Baryl waaaaaaaaay back when.

Willow was originally just Willow and she was created as a practical joke to drive Nightshade Batty. Turns out Willow had a story all her own that I wasn't entirely privvy to. Smythe came along once she learned that she had parents.

Alonwynn came from the Disney's Black Cauldron, I just altered the name a bit

Narcissa- Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince, that book made me seriously consider my favorite character in the series.

I have other's but I think I'll just keep those under wraps. Mostly I see what sounds pretty or interesting ie Laedre my Star Wars character.

Hmm, Going to start with Yasa here. Years ago, one of the books I was reading involved a character who was India and had to go home to England, and leave her daughter behind. I thought her daughter's name was so pretty, I always wanted to use it. Finally got to, Yasamin, meaning Jasmine. Then Bedouin was in character someone asking her last name, and um... Bedouin! Laughing

Dory was easy. Doireann is my middle name. The end.

Last one for now, Xandria. I adore Buffy the Vampire Slayer, and have since seeing it at the movies. Then, the show came on, and the third? episode involved Xander turning into a Hyena thingy. I seriously thought he was so hot, I ended up years later naming my character after him. Embarassed

Book here.
When I started playing UO when i was around 11, I would constantly make characters from my favorite series of fantasy books.
The books were a part of the Chronicles of Prydain by Lloyd Alexander.
When I made char names I would take inspiration from the books and either rearrange the words or just misspell them.
for example my first char in UO was named Arwan. Taken from the villain in the book Arawan. I though I was super cool with that name
because I had yet to read lord of the rings. Then I learned about Arwen.
Caer in another word for a plot of farmland, and in these books a man named Dallben lived on one. Thus came the name Cear Dallben.
I also had a character named Taran Wanderer.

Book. When I first made Ceridwyn (My first char and Ceinwyn's half sister), the name was taken from a character in a book about a druid priestess and her family tie to dragons. It was pretty cool, as it also involved an invasion of Wales by Caradoc and his forces. The character's full name was Ceridwen ab'Arawn, the story wasn't the best I've ever read but there were very good moments in it. It inspired me to look up more about Wales and the goddess Ceridwen and druidic culture. It was fate when I ran into a member of the Druids of Britannia and began roleplaying for the first time.

Later, I would begin to mingle with others from the roleplay community and saw evil roleplay. I felt a pull to play a more evil character, and with our guild leader being pulled from the game by SWG and the thrill of playing a wookie, I created my second roleplay character.

Ceinwyn (a name I thought I created, mixing welsh words, and this time with the desire to give her the last name I'd never given Ceridwyn ) ab'Arawn. For any wondering, ab'Arawn just literally translates into "son of Arawn". Arawn being just a welsh male name. In Irish it would be like McArawn or O'Arawn, etc.

Maelwyn ab'Arawn, Ceinwyn's daughter and Myrddin's twin, was a further extension of this lore and tie to nature. I also made her name from 2 welsh words.

Haydn ab'Arawn, Cein's other daughter, the name translates into heathen in Welsh. Since she was a lab experiment, this I felt was very fitting.

Kale ab'Arawn, the name Kale just sounded wicked to me at the time. So funny also (to me) that it is a type of lettuce.

Any who have followed the writing and RP I have done can see the druidic ties that have always remained in place within the bloodline. I have tried to stay more or less within the druidic theme I started with for the family members I have played. Outside influences alter the druidic theme in some cases, such as lycanthropy (Myrddin's branch of the family), vampirism (Ceinwyn suffered this for a long time ( 5 real time years and Maelwyn's bond to nature prevented her own self from turning) and demonic mixes into the blood line (missing a kitsune branch and Oggeroth's meddling with Kale ). I have left it open for any who play a member of the family to be able to draw on the druidic past of the bloodline at will for their own roleplay.

Joanna Weaver. For her I wanted a name that would be common to the era. In those times people were often named for the jobs they performed. Her grandfather was a weaver. As was his father and grandfather, etc. Her father left the family trade and became a jeweler, much to his own father's disappointment. Joanna was sent away to Moonglow to study magic and returned just before the invasion at the age of 14. The last name Weaver took on a mystical meaning with her magery skill.

The coolest part of this is reading how my friends came up with all their characters names.

Let us start with Nightshade's name. Its actually not Nightshade. It's Willow De'Chambray. It is the name given to her by Violetta (her mother) and Grey (her stepfather) and what is marked on her birth certificate..which probably can no longer be found. However, if you know Nightshades story she is renamed by her real father as Nightshade. Wisteria and Willow aka Nightshade were named after plants due to the strong druidic ties of thier family. The conversion of Willow to Nightshade is a symbolic gesture in the corruption and curse that is upon some of her fathers family. This name also hints at the high toxicity levels of Nightshades own blood. She is a master poisoner afterall.

Special Note regarding Willow, Nightshades daughter, If you are confused here with all the willows, Nightshade named her first daughter Willow to flaunt her real name about as she is a big jokester and she saw Willow as a recreation of herself. Another Joke as Willow points out above. Who knew the kid would stick.

Wisteria her sister was a pure entity and my first RP character ever that fit perfectly into the Druids of Britannia.
Nightshade was my second and she fit perfectly into the chaotic Cabal.

Nyxanna ab'Arawn holds her father and grandmothers last name however her first name means, daughter of night. A play for us on words and Myrddin approved of it. She commonly goes about as Nyxy.

Now for the weirdest naming: Merci d'rue. Started as Merci de la Rue Which meant in french, Thankyou of the Street. Which means nothing and makes no sense. As the character was originally intended as a joke on my friends. I walked in as a blond frenchwoman with a HORRIBLE french accent to see if they could figure out it was me. WHICH they did. *sigh* In any case oddly enough a whole plot happened that night and Merci became a serious character that was DRASTICALLY altered. She spent many years as a mindless killing machine (she was not a lycan at this point) for the Cabal and eventually ended up in Umbra.
