Beneath the shelter of the large Yew tree, Judas enjoyed the promise of new morning. In his hands he held a lute, one of four instruments once gifted to him in friendship by Jolicia. At the time, they were largely disregarded in favor of an unhealthy fascination with the box that held them. But this seemed strange to him now, for the craftsmanship was flawless, and he was confident they would serve him well. A cold wind suddenly whipped past, and Judas reached for his ale, another layer of protection against the bite of winter. After a long sip, he plucked a few strings of his lute, and returned to composing:
I came upon a Gypsy Girl
Who offered me a dance
She wanted more than ale or gold
But I did not seize the chance
I did not have the Gypsy Girl
Not even one small kiss
And though my conscience, satisfied
My loins are all amiss
I did not take the Gypsy Girl
One taste of those sweet lips
Nor gift to her, in return
Between those swaying hips
I did not hold the Gypsy Girl
Within these Abbey walls
The moment it has passed us
Yet still, her body calls
I did not touch the Gypsy Girl
Too shallow or too deep
Now I know, no touch at all
Not even that of sleep
Oh Gypsy Girl, I beg of you
Please, another chance?
I'd give up all my ale and gold
Just to feel your dance
Yes, I'd give up all my ale and gold
Just to feel you dance |
