Jolicia awoke, looking around at her surroundings. Trying to remember how she got here, all that came to mind were the nightmares that had seemed so real and the hunger she was feeling. Then a familiar scent filled the air and she felt the presence. The presence of the woman who calmed her nightmares, made her feel at peace, comforted her in her dreams. Jolicia looked to the door and there she was… smiling, observing.

As Jolicia was being shown her new quarters and being told the rules, she was mesmerized by this woman; how she moved, spoke, commanded her without words. She wasn’t sure yet what this new life was that was being described or the constant hunger she felt. It was obvious to her that this woman was going to be her guide. This woman, that had such a grip over her and made her feel like a child again, was the motherly influence that Jolicia had never had. As her new “mother” bid her goodnight, Jolicia had a renewed feeling come over her as she heard “Welcome to the family”. This was the calmest and most at peace she had been with herself in a very, very long time. For the first time in years, Jolicia felt like herself again and she was certain that this woman was the reason for it. She felt thankful to have a family again and eager to learn what was coming next.
