Korin stood looking out into a place where it was not night but not day either. A dark mist lay on the ground covering the road in front of him. As Korin moved down the path he could hear the sound of his shoes hitting unseen stones. The sound was strangely familiar but seemed so far away.
Korin had the feeling of being here before, but his mind raced to place this place he was in. There was movement in the dark mist just in front of him something was hugging the ground and moving from one side of the path to the other moving away from him.
Korin could now hear something in the distant, at first it sounded like the wind. But the wist was unmoving so it was not the wind. The object moving ahead of him had stopped as well. Korin kept going each step echoing in his mind. the sound was getting louder and louder. Hate, revenge, blood, embrace. came from off the wind those words repeated over and over. Growing louder and louder until Korin had to cover his ears to protect them from those words.
The mist around Korin's feet began to swirl and it all rushed to one point being sucked in in a spiraling motion. The spinning colum of mist rose into the air. Korin stood eyes fixed as the colum of mist spun upward and upward towering over him. It began to move towards him, he tried to out run it. Korin felt the mist tugging at him now the words Hate, revenge, blood, embrace now pounded in his head. The mist was on him it engulfed him lifting him off his feet. Spinning in side the black vortex Korin could not see anything. He could not see anything, he could not breath. In the blackness Korin felt something hit him in the chest. His arms closed around it. Then he was falling down and down he fell.
Korin awoke sitting straight up in his bed, the dieing embers of the fire in the fire place gave off just enough light for him to see he was still in the room he was renting in New Haven. Korin rolled over and was getting settled to try and go back to sleep when something on the floor caught his eye. The flames flicked and glinted off the cover of a book laying on the floor. Korin reached out and picked it up, It was his old necromancers spell book.
But that was impossible he had thrown it away years ago. |
