The scroll is fine ivory parchment, rolled and sealed with red wax, and stamped with a small cross.
Lord Whitwall,
Your name has come to me upon the lips of my most trusted confidant and friend, Lady Knight Eclyse Christian. As you well know, my people have fallen under the attack of plagues unknown, and suffer greatly for it. Therefore, it is with great trepidation that I accept the suggestion of Lady Christian in requesting and allowing your presence within Ashencrosse.
Please take all precautions to protect yourself on your journey, and during your stay here within the fortress. I shall arrange a room for you, should you so desire, within the Bramble Rose Theatre, but I would most gladly move such arrangements to an alternate location to allow as much distance as possible between yourself and the contaminated camp within the fortress.
I will await word as to your intention, and the date and time of your arrival. The guards will have been notified of your visit, as no one is currently allowed into Ashencrosse due to these unfortunate circumstances.
If you have any doubt as to your resilience against this pestilence, I pray you heed it now and rethink your intent to set foot upon these lands. Your intentions are most noble, and the gesture is one of great compassion and sacrifice. Thus came your praises by my Lady’s tongue. And thus say I to you now. In the interim, I will remain…
Yours Most Respectfully,
Lady Aurelia Bretane
Countess of Ashencrosse |

Reading the reply with a smile, he pulls out his own parchment and signet ring of a set of scales.
Your Excellency,
Your words are received with much gratitude. The soonest I will be able to arrive will be in two days time during the early afternoon. As soon as I arrive I will simply need a place for my horse to be stabled away from the sickness and a room as close as possible to the ill for myself. Regretfully I cannot say with certainty that I will be immune to this sickness, yet there must be some one among them who can give their rites and attempt a divine cure. Should I contract it I will willingly stay among our quarantined till it takes me, or passes over.
I will be locked within the shrine of Justice till I set to the trail for Ashencrosse so I will not be able to receive any more correspondence, if you have any qualms please give them to Dame Christian, she will know how to get in to speak with me.
May the Scales tip in your balance,
Verenger Whitwall. |
