Kelly woke to the sounds of birds singing outside her lair. She looked out to see the last of the snow had finally melted away and the fresh air greeted her with the scent of Spring. She strolled through her home and checked on Rhylcice as she slept. She did not know when the Matron would return from her travels but she took over watching her. She had grown close with Rhylcice over the passing months. Rhyl was very smart, dangerously sneaky and to top that off....very attractive. Even Kelly had to keep herself in check with the young lady. She often found herself running her fingers through Rhyl's silvery-white locks. She smiled as she walked away and into the lab. There, Kelly began to mix ingredients, taking notes on the various experiments on blood she did.
"What are you doing?" Rhyl peered around Kelly's waist, asking.
"Testing blood from a Gargoyle." Kelly said as she continued her task at hand.
"What are you testing it for?" She asked began to pick up various ingredients under Kelly's watchful eyes.
"Checking the reaction when mixed with troll and dragon blood...Be careful with that." Kelly reached over and handed the empty vial rack to Rhyl.
"Thank you."
Kelly wondered just what the little princess was up to but went back to her testing. After reaching some conclusions, she set it aside and decided to replenish her growth potion supply. Rhyl was watching her every move, picking up the same or similar ingredients and mixing them along side her.
"Just what are you doing Rhyl?" Kelly looked over at a finished vial that Rhyl was examining closely.
"Watching you." She handed the vial over to Kelly.
"I'll test this on a plant."
"Why a plant?"
"Don't want undesirable side-effects now do we? If the plant dies or changes we can note it." Kelly said and smiled at her young apprentice.
"Still would have been more fun to test it on a human or elf." Rhyl sighed.
Kelly laughed at the ambition.
"I don't want to be little Auntie Kelly. I want to be big and beautiful like older sister Kor...and you." Rhyl got up and paced around.
"You should be enjoying your youth Rhyl."
"I've enjoyed it about as much as I can. I am done with being little." She stood with arms folded and a stubborn gaze set. "Make me something to get older. If you don't I'll go tell Dad you refused my order."
Kelly laughed at the bold command. Of course this only fueled the fire with Rhylcice.
"I mean it!" She stood as tall as she could, her gaze and jaw set telling Kelly she would not take 'No' for an answer.
"You are too dangerous for your own good. If you want to age faster...You will do it yourself. I have the materials, you just need to figure them out. No helping her Squishy!" Kelly looked over to a blackened corner where eight red eyes blinked.
Rhyl growled in her throat. "FINE!" She grabbed up the vials and went to work looking for the right things. She had seen Kelly make one before. She intended to do it right the first time.
Kelly watched from a distance as Rhylcice poured, ground, mixed, and heated various ingredients. She was impressed with the young princess' memory. It had been well over a month since she made that last aging and growth elixir. Rhyl had grabbed every ingredient needed to the exact amounts. Even Squishy watched in curiosity.
Rhyl toiled for several hours and finally held the finished vial up in the air, checking the color against the firelight. Then she said a small prayer to Lloth.
Kelly clenched her jaw at the mention of the Spider Queen in her home. She and the drow Goddess hadn't had the best of blood between them. She was certainly not going to allow Lloth a foothold in her home now. She was a Settite after all. She let this prayer slide and watched as Rhyl drank the vial contents.
"I made one for Xunny too." She turned to Kelly as she put the cork in the top of the second vial and handed it to her.
It was then a pain shot through Rhyl, dropping her to the floor like a rock grabbing her gut.
Kelly just watched, knowing this wouldn't be easy. Growing pains were never easy when rushed. The only advice she offered was two words..."Just breathe." |

Rhyl had grown sick and tired of being so small. Even her twin brother towered over her petite frame. She had been watching her Aunt Kelly closely and when she made the aging elixir, she had begged her for it. Kelly refused to hand it over then, locking it away. Now here she was on the floor in agonizing pain. She felt her body changing but was afraid to look. She hurt in all her muscles and joints, her bones ached to the marrow. The pain seemed to go on forever but she refused to cry out. She took in deep breaths as she heard Kelly's words echo in her mind. Before long, the pain ebbed away and she sat up. She did a limb check. Everything was there. She stood up on wobbly legs, grabbing onto Kelly's arms and the wall.
Kelly sucked in a breath as Rhylcice touched her and stood up. She looked the unbalanced young woman over and found she had indeed grown. Grown into a beautiful temptation for man or woman....let alone a vampire. She wondered how her father and mother would react then laughed aloud.
"Ian is going to need a very big stick to beat the young men away." She turned Rhylcice and just shook her head at the beautiful creature before her. Spring had definitely sprung.
Rhyl laughed and spun around as Kelly handed her a new set of clothing. She put them on and went up into the garden wearing the old monk's robe. It was over-sized on her still but she filled it out better. She sprawled out in the grass and soaked in the spring sounds and air. It felt good to be bigger and she couldn't wait to see what her mother and father's reaction. She also couldn't wait to see her big sister Kor again either. |
