How does one set a price on the cost of freedom and who may rejoice upon the precarious precipice of its concession? What lies speak a rudius won against insurmountable odds at an unexpected moment brought about by treachery? A long sought after shaft is revealed as consisting of nothing but empty wooden dreams. Blessed gifts become obscured when a man is forced to stand silent within love's rushing pulse as wife is torn from husband, father separated from son . . .

The sun retreated upon the horizon, a lowering orb of blazing light extinguishing its brilliant rays in a torrid rush of golden majesty. Whispering waves washed upon the shore, surrendering the last of evening's ebb in an elegant waltz of receeding splendor. Mikhaeil shifted slightly. A placid diffusion of sand and surf dispersed beneath the flawless perfection of his muscled form.

---Mired in the distance a small boy's voice surfaces in sobs Why must you leave us, Daddy? Innocent emerald eyes peer out from above tear-stained cheeks unable to perceive the incomprehensible price of glory.

The soft stroke of a mother's touch serves little to soothe in the wake of a father's departure. Daddy has won his freedom, she consoles. He fought bravely and was given the rudius. Tears flow with her words as she helplessly turns toward the gladiator standing at the door.---

Torrents of moonlight severed the sea, freedom's joy drowning in vanquish.
