Nyxanna stared down at the fragile green haired boy. Rodericks condition was fast worsening. Though Ciara, Kaedance and she had put every ounce of thier combined talents into keeping the boy alive. It seemed not to be. Drago stood near her, his hand on her shoulder, in almost a comforting motion. The usual light in thier eyes dimmed.

Another reminder that there was only so much, an alchemist could do. Limitations abounded and this illness was the unknown. They had prolonged it, Nothing more.

Drago now administered his own final version of the drug the girls had been working on, the medical lab humming with life as the glow of electrical charges moved thru the instruments. Every now and then you could hear the cry of some wild bird. A drizzle of sweat trickled down her brow, across her cheek, danced for a moment with her tears and ran down her small white neck. It was hot as hell right now.

She remembered Tyranis's frantic note as all hell broke loose in her father's kingdom, as people dissapeared and children grew ill. All the green hair, like a poison, ironically invading the poisoners...

Her father had roared from his kingdom set only on his mission to put an end to this curse that threatened not only the Strathmore family line, but his wife.

Nyxanna was tired but she smiled still.
Nyxanna was sad but she laughed still..
Nyxanna was afraid but she continued on...

Hours passed but Drago's altered version of the drug seemed to have no effect. Roderick was just, to far gone. The fear in Iris and Thorynes eyes could not be dismissed. They knew that their brother was fading fast.

What would you have me do Willow? Her voice lifted into the balmy night. I hold your son in my hands and slowly his life slips from me. Each moment another grain of sand in the hourglass. He suffers so...

Nothing was working, His cries shook her to the core, he had become immune to the pain medicines. A horrendous death lay before the boy and Nyxanna could not bare it.

Her eyes flashed purple as they landed on the dagger that was just a bit away, she grasped the hilt of it and stared down at him morbidly. She stood there on the precipice of life and death, a new task filling her mind, a new ideal taking form and shape fluidly. She could end it, she could bring him peace.

Her hand shook..

Two small hands covered hers. From either side they gently touched the pale flesh of Nyxannas hand.

No....

Iris and Thoryne stood on either side of Nyxanna thier hands outstretched.

He is our brother, Iris chimed.

He is our burden, Thoryne proclaimed.

We will free him of his pain. They both said in unison.

Nyxanna stepped back, Drago and Ciara coming closer to see what the commotion was.

The girls now held the dagger within thier hands, their fingers entwining with each other. Their movements became as one, their eyes meeting across the expanse of their brothers body. Their hearts shook with the task they were to do. Yet they had..each other. They positioned the dagger over heart.

Have Mercy.

He stilled, his twisting and turning, his gutteral cries of pain, subsided. Two bright eyes peered up at them from the calm. He raised his hand, it did not shake, his last bit of strength within his grasp. His hand covered thiers and pressed against them, the dagger sliding forward. His eyes plead and with a force of motion and a cry of loss the girls shoved it with force into his heart. Stilling the struggling heart.

There was no blood..only silent tears.

There was no pain, there was only freedom.

With that, Rodericks struggle with illness ended. The odd child, the young boy that had always had a gift for healing others disseapeared before thier eyes. The dagger falling upon an empty bed.

The feathery black wings of his mockingbird took flight, passing its shadow across the window pane.
