Kor’inth walked out from her father’s house into the cool night as she prepared to make her usual rounds at the docks in Vesper. She sighed as she hefted her mace onto her back and summoned her mount. “Same old boring routine,” she thought, "but such is my life as a secret princess.”
Kor’inth had been very protected by both her parents since her birth. She had overheard her mother several times arguing with various people, including her father, of how important it was to protect Kor’inth and her younger siblings from the outside world. It only made Kor’inth want to go out all the more. In fact, often times she actually tempted fate and went looking to get into trouble.
Kor’inth had not ventured out or away from either one of her parents’ palaces in a long time. The last time she did, was with Orlando and that ended with Kor’inth turning her first human into a vampire. That was one incident she did not care to repeat.
The city was buzzing with its normal activity. No whispers of any problems or strangers which made Kor’inth somewhat disappointed. She had hope for some excitement. The people of Vesper did not pay much attention to her for all they knew her as was one of Lord Ian’s army, again, her status remaining very much a secret to the commoners. “Do you really want all the attention you’ll get because of who you are?” she thought to herself. "I mean, you couldn’t go anywhere freely without people stopping you.”
All of a sudden, she noticed unfamiliar vehicles in the harbor, large boats and lots of them. Kor’inth did not recognize the markings or the flags. She observed several men scurrying away from them, some buzzing about getting supplies, others just wanting to get as far away from the captain and to get back to their families. Kor’inth decided she better head back to tell her father so that he could make sure this captain knew whose land he was in.
Kor’inth was lost in thought as she paused by the bridge near the fishermen’s lodge when a male voice startled her. When she turned in the direction of the voice, she heart skipped a beat as she gasped at the man before her. He was the most handsome man she had ever seen in her short life. He smiled a wry grin which caused his eyes to sparkle. Something nagged at her insides that there was something special about this man but she could not put her finger on it. She squared her shoulders and regarded him with little emotion.
“What are you doing in my father’s land? Do you have permission to be here?”
“Supplies and rest for my men, and who is your father?”
“Lord Ian Nottingham”
“Never heard of him,” he shrugged and chuckled at her obviously failing attempt at being authorative. Kor’inth bit her lip fighting back her growing rage at his lack of respect.
“He has no idea who he is talking to, relax girl,” she thought.
He continued to talk to her explaining why he was in port. She only half listened to what he was saying. She was too distracted by his good looks and his apparent “bad boy” vibe she was picking up on. Then it happened. He challenged her to come see his boat. “How dare he think that I am afraid to look at his stupid boat? It was probably all rotten and full of holes!” she thought as she watching him walk in the direction of the docks. Her cheeks grew hot with rage as she stormed after him.
When she reached him, she gasped softly when she saw the enormous black and gold boat. She had seen it before but didn’t expect him to be the owner. He didn’t turn but she could tell by the sound of his voice he was smiling knowing she couldn’t resist another confrontation with him. Before she knew it, he had grabbed her by the waist and swung her onto the deck of the boat with a rope she hadn’t noticed he was holding. She was so surprised that she gripped his shirt and buried her face into his chest. Inhaling deeply, she picked up on his scent. “O positive and sandalwood,” she smiled to herself, two of her favorite scents. Suddenly realizing she was still holding him, she quickly pulled away from him, cheeks flaming hot, and began looking around his boat. He chuckled as he picked up her embarrassment and walked behind her with his hands clasped behind his back. She turned to address him and jumped when she saw how close he had followed her.
“I have never seen anything like this,” she spoke trying to distance herself from him.
“You mean you have never been on a boat?” She shook her head no. He smiled and nodded to the tiller man. Kor’inth had been so lost in his eyes; she hadn’t noticed that they had pulled from port.
“I have….um…not been allowed out much. My parents are somewhat protective of me.”
“So you’ve never been out in the open water?” Again, she shook her head no. “Well, take a look.”
He stepped back and made a sweeping motion with his hand to show her the midnight blue water that surrounded them. She opened her eyes wide and gasped. She ran to the railing and looked over. He chuckled as he followed behind her, observing her backside as well. Kor’inth was in awe.
“So sweetness, why have you been so sheltered?” he asked coming up behind her and leaning over her shoulder.
“I’m very….special to my parents.” She coughed and stood up, trying to get some distance again.
“How so?” he ran a finger down her cheek. Feeling her cheeks grow hot again, she pulled back a bit.
“I am….um…” biting her lip again, she tried to calm herself, “My mother is a drow Matron. My father is a lord of his clan.”
“So that makes you…”
“Heir to both their lands,” she finished.
“A princess,” he whispered under his breath as a smile curled from his lips. ”Twice over, jackpot.” _________________ "Hurting you is the LAST thing I want to do...but it IS on my list."

Little Rhylcice stole off into the night alone. She was becoming much more adventurous and tended to trail after her older sister Kor'inth. This night was no different. She had ventured through the streets of Minoc alone, draped in a heavy monk's robe to hide her features.
Not finding anything exciting there, she snuck off to Vesper. It was there she stumbled upon Kor'inth and she quickly ducked behind a bunch of barrels.
Let's see what big sister is up to tonight she thought as she ducked behind crates and jumped into an empty barrel near the docks unseen.
Rhylcice's jaw dropped when she saw the ships. Never had she seen something so...so...BIG! And beautiful! She had been told of ships in her education. But now they were here in Vesper! Rhylcice climbed from the barrel and decided she had to get a closer look. She also saw a stranger with Kor'inth, and he took her aboard the big ship! Rhylcice did not realize she had stood up in her shock, the hood of the monk's robe revealing a lock of her silvery white hair. She couldn't believe her older sister had just gotten on one of those beautiful ships!
Father and mother won't be happy. She thought. It was then she realized she was standing among a few barrels instead of being ducked behind them. She gasped, spun around to run back to her mother's, and bumped into a crewman carrying a barrel. Both tumbled. The man spouted a few cursed as she scrambled to get her feet. The man grabbed the robe and Rhylcice squeaked and ducked out of it. The man was left holding the now obviously oversized robe as Rhylcice bolted through the streets of Vesper trying to remember which way was home.
Her heart raced as she kept looking over her shoulder as she found the museum in Vesper, ducked inside and hid. Hoping no one saw her she took many deep breaths to calm her nerves. She had been grabbed at by a strange man much bigger than she. She didn't know what to do. If she went home, she faced certain punishment from either parent if not both. But they had to know where Kor'inth was. She looked around and saw no one had come. She paced the floor of the museum. Kor'inth is a big girl. She can handle herself. She muttered her thoughts aloud. She threw her arms up as she argued with herself.
"Father will be mad. Mother with be mad. If I tell, I'll be in trouble too!" She stomped her feet. She then decided to take time out to look at the museum and think about her options. If there were any.
After clearing her thoughts, she smiled. She then snuck off into the woods. An hour later, Rhylcice stood in front of her father's house. She squared her shoulders, puffed up her chest, stood as tall and proud as she could and stormed into the house.
