Agostino rolled over, the scent of hot food luring him from the blessed embrace of sleep. He opened his eyes just enough to peek at the breakfast that waited for him on the table across the room. It was not yet daylight, but he'd gone to bed without eating, and if he didn't get up now, the food would be cold by the time he ate. The ludus was drafty, and the valley wretchedly cold. A pleasant surprise, he thought to himself. And one most unexpected.
