Rhylcice watched the day to day chaos that followed in her Matron Mother's home. She rather enjoyed watching Xunafein get punished for doing this or that wrong, or biting the wrong person. He was a male. Her mother had taught her males were little more than pets if they were really good, slaves if they weren't. She tucked these lessons into her mind and went about her own lessons. Getting punished equally harsh by the Priestess if she didn't learn her lessons correctly. She became fascinated with the Priestess' whip one day. It was particularly active and it had her held in those serpents' gaze.

"Rhylcice!" The crack of the staff on her desk followed, narrowly missing her fingers. "Did you even hear me?" The Priestess demanded.
Rhylcice jumped out of her seat to standing in less than a second it seemed. She shook her head and looked up at her. "No."
"What distracted you this time?"
"Your whip." She signed and pointed. "I have never seen it so...alive."

The Priestess smiled and untethered the whip. The snakes hissed and looked around as if alerted to something. The Priestess went on her guard. She looked to Rhylcice. "Stay close."

Rhylcice looked around. Her heart was pounding. She was excited and scared.

It was then that they both saw what had her whip on edge.

Eight distinctive red glowing eyes suddenly appeared in the darkness of the room before them. It slowly extended a few legs out as if to say..."Greetings."
The Priestess grumbled and tethered her whip as she watched the spider emerge. "What in Goddess' Name?!"

Rhylcice smiled at seeing the spider. "It is awful dark."

They both jumped backward when it suddenly blinked its eyes.

Rhylcice looked to the Priestess. "Spiders don't blink!"

Before Rhylcice could react, a sharp crack broke the silence of the room, followed by an odd squeak. The Priestess had whipped the little "spider" into oblivion. But her snakes bit into...nothing.

Suddenly it appeared up in the corner. Rhylcice pointed it out. Again the whip cracked. Again the spider vanished. The Priestess was now getting irritated.
Go and fetch the Matron. Tell her we have an unwanted...guest.

Rhylcice ran down the hall to get her mother. Only to trip on something. It was that spider! She scurried backward as fast as the spider scurried forward.
"What are you?!" She yelled in her drow tongue. It still advanced until she hit the wall with her back. It was then that Rhylcice swatted at it. It vanished. It appeared on the wall next to her. She swatted at it again. It vanished. Rhylcice was beginning to get annoyed after several more attempts to squash it or shoo it.

"What do you want?! What are you!?" She yelled at it now in drow. She paused to catch her breath as they stared at each other. She held out her hand.
"Go ahead. Bite me and get it over with." She yelled at it.

Instead of biting her, it climbed up onto her hand and sat there. She blinked, it blinked. Fear was replaced by curiosity, anger replaced by excitement.
Rhylcice sat more comfortably at the end of the hallway now. She held up the spider that easily covered her entire hand and then some. It didn't have any real weight to it. She poked her finger at it...through it. It sort of jiggled when she did but it remained still otherwise. The spider moved its front legs as if it were trying to...talk.

Rhylcice had to tell her mother about this. No...she had to show her! "You're coming to see my mother! You caused enough trouble angering the Priestess."
As though it understood her, it vanished. Just simply went poof! Rhylcice then got up, straightened out her clothes and ran to find mother.

The spider sat up high in the shadows of the Matron's room. He watched and waited for the right moment to...drop in on the Matron.

Kal’iksix was finishing up some business that Deathwynd had brought her regarding the tiny army and their training, when Rhylcice ran into the room. Kal’iksix growed low as Deathwynd stepped aside to prevent a collision with the small priestess. Kal’iksix had never seen such excitement in her youngest daughter’s eyes.

“Rhylcice, what is the meaning of this? Priestesses do NOT run into the matron’s chamber unannounced, even if the priestess is the daughter of the Matron.”

Kal’iksix settled into her throne on the dais. She had to keep herself occupied while Ian was in his self-induced exile. She had fought the urge on a daily basis to go over and barge into his crypt during this “rebirth” that Kor’inth had spoke about and not sever his head from his body for leaving her with no help with the twins, especially with Xunafein. His training to be the heir to the Cappadocians had been stalled due to this “rebirth”, but Kal’iksix respected Kor’nith’s request to stay away. In the few communications with her via messenger, Kor’nith had explained briefly what would happen if he was interrupted which had been told to her by Ian’s necromancer and from what Kal’iksix understood, it would be rather dangerous for her to interrupt Ian right now.

“And WHY aren’t you in class, young lady?” Kal’iksix scolded her daughter.

“Forgive me Mother, but there was a slight disturbance.”

“Besides your lack of attention in class, what could possibly have happened?”

Rhylcice winced as her mother mentioned her lack of focus to her lessons and how her natural curiosity easily distracted her.

“Mother there was this….THING that was in class. It…it…it looked like a spider.”

“Rhylcice Do'aere, you disrupt me to tell me about a spider?! Look around dear daughter, there are spiders everywhere!” Kal’iksix’s temper was starting to rise which had become apparent with her rise in the volume of her voice. Her temper too had become short since the blood bond to Ian. “A curse upon us from the gods,” Kal’iksix thought.

“But this one was different.” Rhylcice’s lower lip began to tremble slightly.

“How?”

“It blinks!”

“Blinks?!” Deathwynd replied.

“Spiders do NOT blink, Rhycice. Are you should you weren’t asleep in class and dreamt all this?” Rhylcice shook her head no.

“Summon Priestess Shar'dan ,” Kal’iksix spoke to Deathwynd over her shoulder without taking her eyes off her daughter.

Deathwynd left at once, leaving the priestess with her mother, secretly praising the fact that she was not being left alone with an irritated matron.

Shar'dan Viaxus strode the halls quickly to be sure Rhylcice made it to the Matron. She paused when she heard the yelling, followed by Rhylcice's excitement. A brief grin crossed her lips before she made the choice to enter after hearing the chatter quiet.

Shar'dan bowed low as she entered the chamber. "Matron. I trust Rhylcice filled you in on our unusual...guest?"

Rhylcice nodded and moved to stand beside her Priestess Mentor and teacher.

"It is hardly a spider. I struck it with my whip numerous times and it...blinked into the shadows. Then back out again, reappearing in a different location. It did squeak when the snakes made contact. But the venom had no effect on it. It totally disrupted our lesson. For once, Rhylcice was correct to be", she looked over to her and back to the Matron, "distracted. My whip was alerted to the thing's presence." Shar'dan explained.

It was then the snakes came to life again. Rhylcice pointed them out. "See?! Its in here!" She looked around as did the priestess. "You better come out because you are in BIG trouble little bug!" She shouted with the authority of a young Matron.

It was the moment he waited for....Squishy then appeared directly behind the Matron, perched perfectly on the back of her throne. With one long leg, it tapped her on the shoulder.

Kal’iksix, somewhat irritated with the nonsense, turned around to the thing that had tapped her on the shoulder. Seeing the medium size spider caused her to jump back slightly in surprise.

“See! I wasn’t making it up,” Rhylcice’s little voice squeaked out. Not wanting to admit she had made a mistake, Kal’iksix addressed the thing before her.

“I am the Matron of this house, what is the meaning behind your disruption of the priestess’ lesson?”

Squishy tilted his head slightly as it trying to understand what Kal’iksix had said. He stared at her and blinked his eight eyes.

“See!!! It blinks!” Rhylcice pointed excitedly, Kal’iksix just gasped bringing her hand to her mouth.

“That is enough Rhylcice!” Kal’iksix scolded her again, “I think it’s time to return to your lessons. I want to spend some time with this….thing.”

Kal’iksix looked to Shar'dan sternly, giving her the order to take the priestess back to class. Shar'dan nodded and escourted the priestess away. Kal’iksix turned back the spider and examined it from a distance. Looking it over, it appeared to be a medium sized black widow type of spider, somewhat the size of her messenger spiders, but yet it had a ethereal hue to it. Squishy blinked again which again caused Kal’iksix to jump slightly.

“What in the Goddess’ name??? Did the Goddess send you to watch over me? Surely you must be able to speak? Am I to be punished for my actions? Did Mother send you to punish me and my mixed blood offspring because she is unhappy with being forced in to an alliance with two other gods?”

With every question, Kal’iksix’s voice and temper began to rise. She folded her arms waiting for an answer.

“You know I can communicate telepathically to spiders….so SPEAK!” Kal’iksix yelled stomping a foot.

Squishy tilted this way and that way as he understood the Matron's ranting. He then scurried over to a beam and made sure she was following and dangled himself from his shadowy webbing until eye level with her. He then began what looked like a spasmic dance at first, but then the Matron could make out what he was doing. He was using his legs to sign in the Undercommon of the drow. This was certainly no ordinary spider.

"Apologies. Matron Mother. Friend of Kor'inth I am. Came to meet family. My name is Squishy. Created by Maia the Insane from shadow plane. Educated by Darkhaven. Mother told me to watch over both Houses." He saw her about to say something likely regarding the House comment and quickly signed...."Your House and the Cappa..." his legs fumbled the word...."Vampire's House. You are in HER favor."

Squishy paused eerily still for a moment before signing with renewed vigor. "Keep watch on the twins. Dangerous times. Much Chaos to come. Mother's Order." With that Squishy simply went 'poof' leaving no trace.
