The words plagued unfamiliar upon his tongue as he uttered them. The Commandments of his faith veiled his vision in vain; the virtues he'd once held dear failing in attempt to stay his hand.

The stranger's body lay twisted where it had fallen.

He walked in silence for a short distance. The tension vanished from his chiseled features. The suffering pain of each innocent's death, indeed.

And then it began . . . . .

Terrified screams quickly silenced

One after another, and yet another

Rage released

Remorseless reconciliation

Gauntlets saturated sanguine

The payment well worth the price

Won't make it home
