A brass mail cylinder arrives at the palace of Ian Nottingham via Harbinger, Lord Regent Thraxas' huge raven messenger. It contains the following letter:

"Lord Ian,

By way of introduction, I am Lord Regent Thraxas, of Yew, and now serve as Director of the Maritime Union, a collective of city-states which promote and thrive upon trade.

I have not had the opportunity of meeting you in person, but I have heard of you from reliable sources. You are just the person I am looking for to aid me with a small problem I have.

Recently I discovered that my personal Factor, a renegade and hitherto relatively trustworthy drow, if such is possible (I now wonder), has been made to reveal that he is a traitor to me. As much as I would like to flay the ebon flesh from his broken body, it pains me to completely dispose of him so easily and not to permit his excellent, intuitive, mind to continue to work for me. And also, I want him to suffer for a long, long time.

In pursuance of this, I am wondering if you might be able to use your special talents to make him a more trustworthy servant... one that would serve me unquestioningly and faithfully, without losing that tiny bit of his mind that has been such a boon to me and my work? Make him an undead being who will obey my orders without question as he should have done all along.

If this is possible, I would be happy to pay for it, or, if you rather, do some favor for you in the future. I am a man who does not fail to return favors to those who aid me.

Please advise me. I look forward to your reply.

Your Servant,

Thraxas
Lord Regent of Yew
Director, Maritime Union"

*Looks at the Harbinger with an arched brow, takes the cylinder*
*Reading the enclosed message, Ian smiles as he takes his quill and writes a simple reply*

Lord Thraxas,

I believe I can assist you with your problem. We can meet privately and discuss the details further at your convenience.

*Rolling and sealing the parchment, placing it in the cylinder and handing it to the Harbinger*
