Korin had set off towards the main valley with one intention on his mind and in his heart, Oil he needed oil for the fire. He could not stand the sight of the house anymore. And fire was needed to remove all traces of what had happened there.
Two hours later
Korin was not sure how or what had really taken place, but he know held the hand of Laramie in his as he lead her home. Korin knew he owed his mother and grandmother a great debt. For some how they working together had snatched Laramie from the other side and returned her to him.
She was different and had no memories of Stonegate, Korin or her past. But she was still Laramie. Those brown eyes were still the windows into her soul and Korin held her hand tightly as they walked affraid to let go. Korin did not wish her to enter their house. It needed to be cleaned and he knew inside there still lay the body of their daughter. Stealing a glance at Laramie he wondered if she was here walking beside him if her body was still inside as well.
Korin turned to her at the base of the steps. "Are you sure about this, I a can take you to the in until I have had a chance to clean up a bit?"
Laramie looked up at the door of her home, Then turned to Korin. "I must see." the words were spoken is a soft whisper.
Korin had thought finding his love and his daughter butchered in their home had been the hardest thing he would ever have to deal with in his life. But watching the memories of what had happened in that home come flooding back in on Laramie was killing him. Emotions flared as she spoke aloud more to herself than to him of what had happened. Helplessness, fear, dread, all ran through Korin as he followed behind her from room to room describing the fight.
When Laramie uttered the words "they were looking for something!" and described the woman to him Korins heart froze and faltered for a few seconds. It was all his fault. The drow female that he had let live, she had been apart of this. It was all his fault.
Korin watched in silence as Laramie creasted the top of the stairs. As she rounded the corner where the bodies lay. He leapt to her side as she seem racked with pain, as the form of her dead body started to fade and the wounds that had been inflicted on her old body began to appear on her new one. Korin was scared that as the blood poured out of her new body that he was going to loose her again. The wounds slowly healed as she stood there and at last only scares remained as evidence of what she had been through.
Laramie craddled the body of Kestryl in her arms. She wept until she exshausted collapsed onto the floor. Korin picked her up and carried her into their bedroom and placed her on the bed. Wrapping her up in a blanket he leaned down and kissed her forehead.
Korin left her to sleep, He carefully wrapped the body of his daugher in a cloak and started out of the house.
Standing at the base of the steps with a sober look on his face was Rythane. His eyes lowered to the small wrapped form in Korin's arms. Korin and Rythane eyes met. There was no words spoken but as Korin came down the steps Rythanes placed one hand on Korins back and another on the covered head of his daughter. Together the two men walked aways, away from the house.
Rythane guided Korin to a sheltered spot where he had prepaired an altar of logs. Korin placed his daughters body upon the altar, leaned down and kissed her wrapped forehead. Rythane stepped up beside Korin, in his hand he held a torch. He offered the torch to Korin with out a word. Korin took the torch in his hand and still looking at the form of his daughter he lowered it to the oil soaked wood. His hand faltered and stopped short of the logs.
Rythane stepped beside Korin and with great care placed his hand on Korin's wrist. "It must be done My friend." The words where barely a whisper and he guided Korins hand down. The fire caught and the flames leapt into the night sky.
Rythane stood with his arm supporting Korin as the two stood in silence. As the fire consumed the body of Korin's only child.
Korin was not sure how long he had stood watching the flames or when Rythane had left him alone. But the sun was now lighting the eastern sky beyond the mountains. Korin turned and started the walk home.
He walked into the house and the smell of soap hit his nose. Rythane was on his knees with a bucket of water scrubbing at the dried blood on the floor. Korin joined him and the two worked into the day cleaning all evidence of what had happened there away. As the last of it was finished korin and Rythane stood looking at what they had done. With a grim look on his face Rythane turned to Korin. "I wish I could do more my friend."
Korin Nodded to him.
"I wish I could take your pain away." Rythane said as he gathered his things to leave.
Rythane turned to leave not knowing what else he could do. but turned back
"if there is anything you need you know where to find me."
Korin nodded again. "Ry, I will need your help." Korin said steel coming back into his voice. "I am going to hunt down who did this and avenge my daughter." |
