WHAM! the little fist beat against her mothers side. WHAM! WHAM! WHAM! If it didnt stop the little fist would surely fall right off...

Lea was... unusual to say the least. She wasnt fully put together sometimes. For a baby she had an unusual tendency to misplace rather important things. Like.. an eye. Indeed, Lea was much like a ragdoll her body parts not quite sticking in place all the time. She wasnt.. alive.. she wasnt dead she was.. an It.

It was the best description. She was hungry, that was the other odd thing, she wasnt hungry for milk, or normal baby things. No this cursed little imp was hungry for...something special. It was not a joke when her mother stared down in bemusement at her little doll, and said softly, This one will suck the life right out of ya.....

Not that she was any good at doing that, so for now she contented herself on small insects.. It was a start?

A baby's first words can be a proud moment in a parents' life. The mumbling of either "mamma" or "dadda" can set a parents' heart sailing, but until that time they are left to wonder and anticipate exactly what the first word would be.

This is how it was with Livvie and Ebon VanHellseig as they peered into their daughter's crib. A slight coo, a brief gurgle... and then, as clear as a bell, not merely a first word, but a statement. A statement that Lea VanHellseig would repeat at least fifteen more times until every ant, spider, ice snake and Ebon's poor pet toad would be reduced to a powdery, dried corpse.

An arriving babysitter would vomit as her impending knock fell silent, her footsteps trailing back down the steps. They were both so proud of her, slightly nauseated and less a pet frog, but proud... and much to sick to go out tonight anyway.

"Anh Mi Sah Ko you too sweetheart!" Only time could tell how Dell would be.

The child's black eyes glinted under the sallow illumination of the nursery. Sucking greedily at the light; impossibly dark, alive with vitality.

Dots of marbled obsidian set within pale, alabaster skin unblemished. Soft and without the scent of age, or experience, or preconceptions marring what could be.

His chubby legs kicked lazily at nothing, the simple act of control a delight to him, and new.

Dell VanHellseig smiled sweetly...prettily, following the gaze of the strangers floating above him alternately, and with equal curiousity and attention. Catching their eyes in his own, and keeping small bits for himself.

Despite the raucous histrionics, garbled cries, and jerky thrashing of his birth-twin, not inches from him, sharing the same crib, Dell cooed happily, and flapped his tiny fists in the air.

The calm of the child seemed deliberate.

She seemed to suddenly calm, her wild hunger at last quieted . She turned her small head, deliberately at her sibling. In the darkness her empty eyes staring at him.

A tiny fist uncurled, hand outstretching as oddly, it moved towards him. Control, understanding, freedom. Outside the womb the twins world opened up to them and Lea clung instantly to her sibling the close connection unsevered by their brith. Lea and Dell, twins evermore.

He obviously had an effect on her as the babe fell asleep her movements stilled and her eyes closing. Her hand grasping his clothing, inseperable. It was a bit odd, perhaps, however given the parents it really could be no surprise. Often those that begin life together have a connection that is beyond what normal siblings share.

Some might say that they shared a language of all their own..

When you have children life changes. The spur of the moment, “Because I feel like it.” errands, the “Just the two of us,” nights in and most of your sleep fall by the wayside. Small moments like taking a bath when you want to, and using the restroom when you want to, become doing it when you have the time. Parenting is no place for the self-absorbed.

Lea and Dell, lay side by side and hand in hand. A common occurrence, the two were inseperable. Running a hand through her hair Livvie gave a tired sigh. It was best she rest now, while they did. For once the pair got going again there would be no telling when she would again get the chance. Quietly she leaned down and placed a kiss on each of their tiny brows.

Curling up on the bed beside their bascinet, she divested herself of shoes and drifted off to a light slumber, her mother's hearing tuned to the slightest hint of movement from the babes.
