|
*Of all the many types of soldiers that have appeared on the military stage over the course of time, none has been more recognized as the European knight of The Middle Ages and none has had an equal impact on history - social, cultural as well as political. Although knights remained the lowest rank of upper class, knighthood acquired a unique cache that made knighting a prized honour. Modern day imagery of the knight as being an armour-plated warrior on horseback with the title 'Sir' whose house was a castle and who divided his time between the pageantry of the tournament and the lonely adventures of knight-errantry represents a concept that belongs more to legend and literature than to real life.*
*The Knight In History - Frances Gies*
*It was, and has always been held, that every knight, whatever his social circumstances, has in himself the inherent power of creating others to his order. Perhaps the most popular person to confer knighthood was a prince or king, however many instances are found in the old chronicles of the conferring of knighthood by a father, an uncle, another knight, a representative of the church and even, however rarely, certain ladies. The preparations for conferring chivalry upon the squire were of the strictest and most solemn nature. The knighting ceremony itself represented the validity of the genuine transmission of honorourable recognition and responsibility.*
*The Medieval Warrior - Paul LaCroix and Walter Clifford Meller*
The knighting ceremony planned for Eclyse Christian November 9, 2010, is intended solely as a re-enactment of the medieval conferring and will be carried out true to its historical nature. There exists no corelation nor shall it have any bearing upon Eclyse's rank or position within Stonegate, but rather stands simply as recognition for her successful completion of warrior training by her chosen instructor.
It is hoped that all will attend and enjoy. _________________ *Even if you be otherwise perfect, you fail without humility. ~ The Talmud* |

Thanks so very much to all who came. It meant the world to me, as much as I was averse to the total spotlight type event. At least it got me in gear so the hall could be finished! |
