Delivered to Eclyse by hawk, written on fine vellum parchment in elegant script and sealed with the royal purple crest of clan McKairin . . . .

Squire Christian,

As discussed last eve, I forward herein the instructions I expect you to follow in preparation for your acceptance of knighthood's sacred vows. Please hold to my suggestion that you choose someone trusted to accompany and assist you, however the decision in this remains yours alone.

You are to fast for two days prior to the knighting. I shall allow you to partake of red wine only during this forty - eight hour period of time in but small quantity and well spaced increments.

The evening prior to the knighting you are to proceed to the Shrine of Compassion bringing with you - but not donning - your full suit of armour. You shall then commence 'the watch' consisting of long hours of prayer and meditation upon your armour suit.

In the early hours of the following morn you are to find a suitable place in which to bathe. After washing away all sins and past transgressions you are to don a white robe as a symbol of your purity.

Progress then to Yew Abbey. Make confession and peform whatever pennance may be assigned you. Spend the remainder of the day in contemplation of your pending service to the vows you are about to make your own.

An escort shall be sent when I am ready to receive you.

May I suggest remembrance of what I told you my father did to me in order that you might include in your prayers the hope that I am not led to repeat the same with you!

In Service,

Sir Kaylor McKairin
The Black Knight of Stonegate

Eclyse paced the length of the room, reading the parchment twice before pausing. Choose someone trusted? She looked out the window at the snow, hued pink by twilight’s lingering rays. In all her time here in Stonegate, she had never allowed herself the time to make friends. She didn’t even know whom she could trust, or who would even listen long enough for her to ask their help.

She plaited her long black waves into a loose braid, and sat down at her writing desk, pulling out a sheet of parchment and a quill. Eclyse stared at the blank parchment for several moments before beginning her response.

Sir Kaylor,

I thank you most humbly for the instructions that you have provided. I can assure you that they will be carried out reverently and obediently. I will, in the interim, also seek to find someone to attend me in the days before the ceremony, as you have requested. Failing this, I will do my best to fulfill my role alone.

I stand in awe of the life journey that I am about to begin. For as much as this is the conclusion of one chapter of my life, it is but the first of many to come. I shall be eternally grateful for the guidance you have given to me.

Yours humbly,
Eclyse Christian

The parchment was rolled carefully, tied with a black satin ribbon, and sent back to Kaylor with his regal hawk.
