She tried once more.. Her hands wove an intricate pattern as the dark shadows of the entropic magic left them. The magic seemed to pause for a moment then lurch forward hitting the target. The room pulsed as she cast her spell, mind strained with the concentration and focus required for it. This was a complex spell, it was at the top of her abilities, one that she knew with time would grow easier for her. She had been working on the successful casting of it for the past month. She had spent countless hours in the Dungeon Shame feeding off the residual entropic energies and casting her spell over and over.

Barl watched with a critical eye, his dark form rising next to her. Barl had become a dark energy force himself his presence oddly comforting to her. At last he nodded, his clear voice wringing thru the darkness, seeming to cut thru it concisely.

A bit rough Nightshade, I want you to try it again until it is smooth. Your spell work has always come naturally but this spell feels forced. You are not opening yourself properly to it. Watch and you will see what I mean.

With a flair he cast the very same spell, it left his body with force. It cut thru the inky blackness with a scream of power, hitting the focused target and ripping it from core to core. In essence, it was unmade literally, its structure decimated. Barls power filled the room, it flowed naturally from him as his body became an instrument of the magic, enhancing its creation and flowing easily from him.

She sighed..a bit disheartened at how strong and natural it came for him. She shook her head. Her teacher rarely showed any emotion, indeed it was a thing of long past for him. Each year his mortal remembrances slipped further from his mind. He was known to spend countless, hours, weeks, years in the darkest and most secluded of places researching one thing that had caught his eye. He turned to her now a hint of a smile on his face. Feeling the frustration in her he said smoothly, but commandingly to her:

You Will do this spell as I have Nightshade. It is in line with what you wish to become.

It was all she needed. She turned thrusting out her hands as he had, the spell leaving them this time without hesitance, flowing instantly, ripping thru the air with a viciousness well deserved. The strength of her spell grew and ruthlessely hit the target engulfing it utterly.

The air crackled from all the casting and Barl nodded once more, pleased with himself for wringing from her the high standards he insisted upon. No matter the toll it took upon her, she would do as he instructed. She was ambitious, and though at one time Barl had made it clear that he did not trust her kind, for the most part she had pleased him.

They had long since moved past simple spells and it was something she took great pride in learning, a side of Nightshade that few ever saw. Her hair blackened with residual essence, her eyes dark, her expression determined. She had finally found her path as a Channeler, a type of magic not well known but ran naturally in her family line.

She turned now to him, the lesson done and he new instantly something new was on her mind.

Teacher I bring you news, it seems I have ran into a fellow named Vaylin, he wishes to meet with you.

He paused as he gathered his books to him then turned, the slightest hint of curiousity on his drow features. He studied her long, then turned his gaze away.

You did not run into him, he found you. Bring my brother to me, Nightshade.
