How is everyone doing? Not that is matters much, but I decided to check in and see how the ole ARPC community is doing today. I finished my AIT just last week, and let me tell you it has been one of the best weekends/weeks/month so far in my book! I only wish I could be here all the way into October, but alas another Haloween just isn't going to be happening for me.
THEY'RE STATIONING ME INTO GERMANY!
I was pretty shocked to hear about it myself, but I'm sorta glad now because of all the praise I hear about it. Have any of you guys been to Germany or know anything about it? Some advice or knowledge would be helpful for the trip to come.
Thanks if you reply! _________________ AKA: Gryss ab'Arawn

Well, they have Rammstein. And the Bundesprüfstelle für jugendgefährdende Medien. Oh, and beer. _________________ a.k.a., Killian Ond, Oliver Dunham, Iorwerth (ap Gruffydd), Husam (ibn) Sadid, Ortinlem |

Germany is a blast. I've been to 30 + countries and that has been by far the friendliest place I have ever been to. The farther south you go the nicer they are (Bavaria is the epitome of good natured people). Lots of great places to visit and the beer is amazing. You might end up getting stationed not far from Munich so you should probably check that out. Pick up a language book and start learning some basic phrases. Might be easy to get Rosetta Stone German from Vuze but I would never do something like that. |

Ask Cein. That's where she was stationed. _________________ (4:45:41 PM) Jarem: It becomes increasingly difficult to feel noble in my causes when my cause is to defend my charge from her own violent tendencies. |

Awesome fun! Be sure and visit this place.
Hofbraeuhaus Munich
I went with my Mom and toured 7 countries. I cried on the plane flying out of Munich. It was just like a real life UO game with all the castles and white houses with flower boxes in the windows and cotta roofs. I didn't want to leave. And the people are just awesome there. The food is out of this world. My sister lived there for high school and was stationed there twice. They asked for both tours. _________________ Grand Duchess Molly Kaldhel

I think you'll have a good time, especially stationed near a larger city. If ya do go to Munich definatly check out the Hofbraeuhaus. At Christmas take a stroll down Rosenheimerplatz for some wine.
I think you'll have a blast, it's absolutely a nice place to be. (and do learn a bit of German, a good many people speak english... with the exception of most cab drivers *grins*)

Hey thanks for the feedback ya'll. I'm going to be stationed in Heidelburg. I guess that is a good place to be but heck if I know right? lol.
I have been working on some phrases to learn but its a work in progress. Ceiny was stationed there? I'm shocked, but even more shocked that she didn't reply first to this thread as usual! Your out of touch Ceiny! _________________ AKA: Gryss ab'Arawn

Pfft.
Just be sure to see the castles. It's really the only thing I regret not doing when I was there. _________________ "Art and architecture must combine to create something larger than either." ~ Robert Campbell |

Germany is good duty. I was stationed in Meinz and had a blast.
If you've never been to Germany before (either military or civillian) make it a point to go to the local pubs, resturaunts and inns and sample the local food and drink. Especially if you find the ma & pa owned places. Alot of the smaller gasthauses brew thier own "haus bier" - TRY IT.
Don't waste every weekend getting hammered at the local club or NCO club. Go places. Get a tram pass and go see the local towns. Walk around and window shop. Go to museums and art galleries and concerts (of all kinds of music).
Not every American gets a chance to get out of the country on someone else's dime. Make the most of it. In the time I was stationed in Europe (which was WOEFLLY short) I got to Paris, Amsterdam, Vienna, and all over Germany. (except Berlin, which I still regret). You never know when or if you'll be back there again so get the most out of it. You will learn more aobut the world and grow more as a person by seeing the world first hand than you can in any class or any school.
And if i may offer a piece of military advice, given to me by my older brother (who retired as a Sergeant Major after 30 years of service - most of which were in Germany.)
"If you're at a club off base and something goes down, usually MP's will show up along with the Politzei. If you're gonna be picked up, grab ahold of that MP and don't let go. Hold on to him like a wino holds onto his last bottle of ripple. Pretend you're getting sucked out of an airlock and he is your only handhold before dropping from 30,000 feet without a chute. Grab him and hold onto him in ways that would get you arrested in most Southern states if need be. If there is ever a choice between MP's and the Politzei, do not let the Politzei take you. Germany is not the USA, and you do not have the same rights. Especially near bases, German Politzei seem to take joy in expressing those differences."
Most people give 2 cents. Here's my nickel. _________________
